Position Summary

  • Utilizes protective gear in all appropriate functions

  • Laundry Workers perform a variety of tasks on varying shifts, including collecting and sorting soiled linen, loading and unloading machines, and folding clean linen.

  • Operates computer-operated washers and dryers.

  • Responsibilities include counting and recording the linen processed each day, making proper deliveries to units and, cleaning and sanitizing the work area including; machines, work tables and sorting area.

  • Performs laundry activities within well established guidelines to ensure that quality standards, safety guidelines and customer service expectations are met.

  • Delivers personal clothing to the appropriate resident.

  • The overwhelming majority of the laundry worker's job is performed while standing, walking and bending.

  • The laundry worker is responsible for satisfactory and timely completion of assigned linen, etc. according to schedule.

  • Reports equipment/cleaning product needs and or malfunctions to supervisor in a timely fashion.

  • Is responsible for the safe and proper use of detergents and adheres to all safety precautions.

  • Work involves pulling and pushing, carrying weight up to 50 pounds, twisting, bending and reaching from floor to waist height and from waist to chest level.

  • Represents HCSG in a positive manner; is able to follow oral and written instructions, is pleasant, tactful and courteous and cooperative with supervisor, co-workers, residents and client staff.

  • The laundry worker consistently embodies the characteristics necessary to drive the Company's Purpose, Vision, Values, and DNA.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

  • Experience preferred, but on-site training is provided.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Must be able to be at work on time.

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English as to be understood effectively by another individual.

  • Ability to recognize hazards and follow appropriate protective equipment measures, read and understand MSDS sheets, and communicate with coworkers as to such.

  • Personal cleanliness.

  • Pleasant, tactful, courteous.

  • Must be able to fully understand and complete all In-Services.

  • Must be able to be at work on time.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift/carry a maximum of 50 pounds, push/pull a maximum of 50 pounds, stand, sit, bend and walk for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to work around food and cleaning products.

  • Must live in service area. No relocation costs.

VIEW JOBS 6/17/2021 12:00:00 AM 2021-09-15T00:00 Using conflict resolution strategies, divert clients seeking shelter and empower them to chart their own path back to housing. The Shelter Diversion Worker will help those newly experiencing homelessness identify and implement strategies that will prevent them from entering shelter and/or securing housing through rapid exit from shelter. Primary Responsibilities: * Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan. * Perform work in a safe manner observing all Goodwill safety policies/procedures. * Perform duties and interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner. Respect the diversity of others including, but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non-visible disabilities. * Meet each identified individual/household the day immediately following shelter entry * Provide a thorough, strength-based assessment for each individual/household * Engage the individual/household in a discussion to brainstorm potential housing solutions. Work together to explore each option and come up with a best-fit plan * Work with people who are experiencing homelessness or are about to be to provide referrals and guidance to assist them in preventing homelessness or diverting them from entering the shelter system. * Primarily uses motivation and influence to divert individual/household to other sources of assistance when possible. * Screens and immediately addresses safety concerns; individuals/families with identified safety concerns such as domestic violence will be immediately connected to a domestic violence shelter provider. * Mediation with individual family, landlords, and other interested parties will be a major responsibility for this position. * Track outcomes related to diversion activities. Reports to: Project Director, Ending Family Homelessness Supervises: No One Education, Certifications, Licenses, Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work/other Human Services field, or current enrollment in a social work/human service/social service program required. Licensed social worker preferred. Two years in related experience with case management services, housing, and homeless populations preferred; CPR/First Aid; Valid Driver's License, and must possess, or be able to obtain, a Chauffeur's License. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: * Familiarity with local human service providers and other community resources and agencies * Effective communications skills, including both verbal and non-verbal, as well as active listening * Ability to engage and build trust and rapport with difficult to serve and/or resistant populations * Ability to work with diverse communities and exercise mature judgment * Highly motivated self-starter and ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects/tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment * Demonstrate an ability to work independently and/or as part of a team * Strong problem solving and conflict de-escalation/resolution skills * Computer skills and experience, with proficiency in online data management systems * Knowledge of and sensitivity to persons with disabilities or who are disadvantaged * Knowledge of and sensitivity to persons with substance abuse disorders and mental illness * Knowledge of and sensitivity to persons who are survivors of domestic violence * Previous experience working with the homeless population is preferred * Knowledge of and experience with conflict resolution and mediation Physical Requirements: * Lifting up to 20 pounds, stairs, walking on uneven surfaces, and bending. * This position is considered a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to zero tolerance under the Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan Drug Free Workplace Policy.
