Laundry Worker II position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of commercial laundry equipment and performing complex laundry work in a

commercial laundry. Laundry Worker II assists with overseeing the laundry process in the soil sort and dryer areas.

Will promote teamwork while

performing all assigned tasks. Activities include sorting, classifying, weighing and recording of weights, loading/unloading of Continuous Batch Washer (CBW), press, shuttle, and large 300# dryers, small commercial washer/extractors and dryers, flatwork ironing, unloading conveyor, folding, preparing clothes and linens for delivery, delivery, and routine cleaning of work area/areas.

Work involves both light and heavy physical labor. Employee will follow all HHSC, Facility, and Regional Laundry procedures for reporting time and attend work on a regular and predictable schedule performing all tasks as

assigned. All tasks will be performed within the established time frames.

Laundry Worker II works under the close supervision from the Laundry Worker III, Laundry Manager and Regional Laundry Director with minimum latitude for use of initiative and independent judgment. This position will occasionally work under close supervision of the Laundry Maintenance assisting with daily

laundry preventative maintenance. Completion of work requires use of established methods and/or techniques. Decisions are simple and based on

well-defined guidelines. The Laundry Worker II has no financial responsibility but is accountable for assigned property.

This position is required to drive a state-owned vehicle. Essential Job Functions:

Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Assist in overseeing the laundry process in the soil sort and clean processing areas.

Operation of the Continuous Batch Washer (CBW), Press, Shuttle, 4 300# Dryers

Operation of the CBW, Press, shuttle, 4 dryers, and un-loader belt, and 300# Lint Collector.

Operation of the 300# dryer unload conveyor.

Operation of commercial washer/extractors and dryers.

Operation of the Feeder, Ironer, Folder, and Stacker.

Operation of small piece folders.

Folding linens by hand.

Maintains a clean and safe environment to meet infection control and safety standards.

May help with the pick-up, quota count, filling of orders, and delivery to units/departments.

Attends and participates in all mandatory training to meet HHSC/SSLC requirements.

Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of commercial laundry operation, equipment, laundering techniques, and procedures

Ability to Safely operate commercial laundry equipment

Ability to fold neat/quick

Ability to distinguish colors

Ability to receive and fill orders

Ability to use proper lifting techniques

Ability to lift/carry 40-50 pounds

Ability to sort/throw 20 pounds 6'

Ability to Push, Pull, and Steer loaded laundry cart (50-900 Lbs.) on 6" wheels having dimensions up to 57" (high) x 28" (depth) x 48" wide)

Ability to safely drive and operate bobtail type vehicles and mounted hydraulic lift gates

Ability to troubleshoot and identify problems and/or solutions to problems

Ability to write clearly to communicate your intentions

Ability to communicate effectively with people with diverse back grounds

Ability to follow and give written directions and verbal instruction

Ability to read, follow, comprehend, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating procedures, maintenance instructions and manuals.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

Must possess valid Texas driver's license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.

Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy. Initial Selection Criteria:

One of the following is required:

Paid or unpaid experience in performing laundry or sewing services; or

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.

Preferred:

6 months experience in commercial laundry operation, equipment, laundering techniques, and procedures preferred.

Additional Information:

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities. Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
