Summary:

Supports the day to day operations of the Laundry and Materials Distribution area and insures the laundry supply needs of the patient care areas and departments are met. Covers the Team Leader position in the absence of the Laundry Team Leader.

Responsible for coordinating the volumes of linen required in conjunction with the laundry vendor to insure adequate supply. Insures that the infection control standards for handling and transporting clean and soiled linen are maintained according to hospital policy. Supports and is cross-trained to functions in the Materials Distribution Area.

Responsibilities:

1.Participates key member of the Laundry/Materials Distribution area. Ensures laundry supply is adequately maintained per the laundry vendor on all linen par areas. Maintains level of laundry supplies.

2.Performs functions of Materials Support Clerk 1 in the Materials Distribution are. Supports inventory functions & supply distribution on a regular basis.

3.In the absence of the Team Leader, coordinates staff activities. Ensures deliveries are made timely to linen par areas. Manages par level requirements to ensure adequate linen levels in each area.

4.Organizes and ensures staff replenishes each physical site or exchange cart. Ensures procedures are followed for linen tracking & consumption/utilization.

5.Oversees the clean room function to ensure adequate production of supply is met. Ensures infection control procedures are met by staff. Trains staff daily activities & monitors them for compliance with standards.

6.Oversees and manages the use of the emergency linen supply. Insures the rotation of the linen supply.

7.Directs staff to work and works in the soiled linen room using proper infection control technique to move linen from the laundry chute to the transport carts. Transports carts of soiled linen from point to pickup to storage areas to shipping dock.

8.Processes linen in the laundry clean room as needed through sorting, folding, assembling, packaging and wrapping to prepare towel, linen & gown packs for sterilization & distribution.

9.Assists other distribution team members and laundry workers with their work assignment to expedite the delivery process.



  1. Cross-trained to the Materials Support Clerk function including distribution of inventory, packages, mail and equipment. Support the Materials Management departments as needed.

  2. Maintains a safe work environment for daily operations.

  3. Reports variances from the Materials Management standards to manager to ensure continuity of operations.

  4. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required: Ability to read and write and understand conversational English. Basic writing and arithmetic skills is required.

Participates as a key support member in the Materials Distribution area, insuring that linen, equipment, supplies, and mail are adequately maintained and delivered in cooperation with the nursing staff in all clinical areas. 2. Using routine methods or hand-held devices, determines nursing unit usage, whether linen, supplies, or equipment needs replenishing as per par levels. Performs ongoing attention to usage so as to maintain proper par levels. 3. Follows all procedures for tracking linen distribution and return of unused quantities from the nursing floors or user departments. 4. Works in soiled linen room using proper infection control techniques to move soiled linen from laundry chute into transport tubs & then to storage area. Assists in the pick-up of soiled tubs elsewhere in the building and returns them to the soiled room. 5. In addition to the deliveries of all Par supplies, performs delivery function of all non-par items, including, but not limited to: UPS and FedEx, mail, linen requests, equipment, MDC completed orders, and the pick-up of Archives and shipping requests. 6.
