About Putnamville Correctional Facility

The Putnamville Correctional Facility is a medium security adult male facility located in Putnamville, Indiana (Greencastle address), located on US Highway 40, about halfway between Terre Haute and Indianapolis.

Laundry Foreman 1

Manages operation of a large laundry facility in an adult male correctional facility. Teaches offenders a trade that can be used for self-support upon release from prison.

A Day in the Life

  • Instruct offenders on proper use of laundry and marking equipment and sewing and mending machines;

  • Instructs offenders on proper laundering methods and the proper care of various fabrics;

  • Makes daily work assignments and maintains daily attendance, performance and wage records for offenders;

  • Assists offenders in achieving acceptable work habits and in overcoming inappropriate behavior patterns;

  • Counsels and disciplines offenders as needed;

  • Maintains inventory of, and control over, supplies;

  • Maintains control and security over volatile and dangerous items;

  • Assumes responsibility for custody of offenders during hours they are assigned to the laundry;

  • Orders laundry supplies and makes recommendations for equipment purchases;

  • Operates all laundry equipment;

  • Ensures that safe and sanitary conditions are maintained in laundry in compliance with state and federal regulations;

  • Performs related work as required

What we are looking for

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

  • Willingness to undergo a background investigation.

  • Ability to pass a drug screen

  • Four (4) years of full-time paid commercial or institutional laundry experience. Substitutions: Completion of an accredited vocational school course in laundry and dry cleaning may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

  • Specialized knowledge of the equipment in the laundry and their proper operation as well as of new equipment and supplies available;

  • Specialized knowledge of, and ability to select, proper cleaning agents needed to launder fabrics;

  • Practical knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding correct water temperatures, sanitation and safety;

  • General knowledge of institution regulation, policies and procedures;

  • Ability to instruct offenders on proper laundering methods and use of equipment and to train them in proper work habits;

  • Ability to maintain custody of approximately 10 offenders assigned to laundry and to maintain strict control of volatile and dangerous items;

  • Ability to cooperate with and assist various departments using laundry services in resolving problems and maintaining efficient operation;

  • Ability to maintain accurate inventory, time, wage and equipment records;

  • Ability to plan and implement efficient procedures in order to carry out laundry services.
