The purpose of this position is to perform the specific tasks necessary to provide clean personal clothing and linens for all residents residing at Mennonite Home Communities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Collects soiled linens from all linen chutes as scheduled.
Adjusts work hours when filling in on various shifts as scheduled.
Works on the "Washing Side" sorts, weighs and washes all soiled linens when scheduled.
Changes laundry detergents as needed, following safety guidelines.
Reports torn and worn out items, identifying items beyond repair, those needing mending and those without name tags.
Labels residents personal clothing.
Mends personal clothing when necessary.
Loads/empties dryers, sets the appropriate temperatures/timers on dryers. Signs off when completed.
Cleans dryer lint screens every 2 hours.
Irons residents' personal clothing as needed.
Folds linens and fills assigned linen carts with designated linen amounts.
Delivers all assigned clean linen carts to designated linen closets before end of shift.
Folds, hangs and delivers all residents personal clothing to the correct resident rooms.
Organizes personal clothing in resident's closets and dressers when delivering and/or as assigned.
Demonstrates a professional and positive attitude at all times.
Works around elderly persons of various levels of care showing understanding and compassion.
Works with minimal supervision. Demonstrates good time management skills to ensure all assignments get completed before the end of shift.
Accepts responsibility and follows through with verbal/written instructions accurately.
Completes cleaning duties at the end of each shift.
Flexible, cooperative and efficient.
Meets a variety of physical requirements such as reaching, bending, stooping, twisting, standing (1 - 3 hour periods), lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing or pulling up to 150 lbs, climbing, squatting, kneeling, reading, writing, walking, being on your feet 95% of the shift.
These physical requirements are called for frequently and spontaneously as needed and for varying periods of time.
Maintains a clean, food and drink free work area.
Transports linens to/from WCV as assigned using MHC vehicle.
Fills out various log in/out daily (i.e. dryer lint screens, cleaning schedules, cart delivery sheets, etc.)
Follows proper safety, lifting, pushing, pulling, sanitation, exposure control, infection control, fire and disaster procedures, Standard Precautions and Residents Rights.
Completes any other tasks as assigned by Laundry Coordinator.
Previous experience preferred but not required.
Valid PA Drivers License to operate company vehicle as needed.
The Laundry Aide is responsible to the Laundry Coordinator and the Director of Housekeeping and Laundry. In the absence of the Laundry Coordinator or the Director of Housekeeping and Laundry, the Laundry Aide relates to the Housekeeping Coordinator or RN Supervisor (2nd shift) for direction.
