JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Community Coordinator for the Latinx Community is an integral member of the Paul Robeson Cultural Center (PRCC) staff and is primarily responsible for overseeing programmatic initiatives that support Latino, Latina, and Latinx student communities. The Community Coordinator serves as an advocate and resource for students and student organizations and develops and assesses culturally relevant programs that build a community for Latinx students and allies. This includes supporting Hispanic Heritage Month Planning with campus partners alongside ongoing support initiatives. The Community Coordinator establishes and maintains strong collaborative relationships across campus units to serve students, specifically but not limited to Latinx communities. Additional duties include ongoing contributions to the Paul Robeson Cultural Center and Student Affairs staff along with the coaching and mentoring of student staff. This position reports to the director of the PRCC.

Responsibilities:

  • Advises student organizations and student leadership, develop, and executes programming, and serves on institutional committees to support Latinx students and their allies.

  • Provides consultation, resources, and referrals concerning Latinx communities to various audiences.

  • Assists organizations in developing and implementing sustainable leadership practices; and navigating established policies, procedures, and resource management strategies.

  • Schedules logistics and secures resources for academic, cultural, and social programs and events that contribute to the recruitment and retention of Latinx students and the enrichment of the institutional community.

  • Serves as liaison to various committees regarding initiatives and best practices.

  • Direct supervision over Latinx community outreach and support initiatives within the Paul Robeson Cultural Center.

  • Responsible for hiring, supervision, and evaluation of undergraduate student staff supporting ongoing initiatives.

  • Maintain Latinx student support initiatives, related equipment, and supplies in partnership with the PRCC leadership team.

  • Successful development, promotion, execution, and assessment of a suite of programs that center the experiences and intersectional identities of Latinx students at Penn State.

  • Collaboration within the Paul Robeson Cultural Center and its identity/community specific support: Black Student Community Support, APIDA Student Community Support, and Indigenous, First Nation, Native Student Community Support.

Education:

The position requires a master's degree plus 1 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and practices working with students and colleagues.

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, specifically, but not limited to, Latinx populations as well as a strong commitment to supporting students of color and other minoritized student populations.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the challenges facing students, staff, and faculty from historically underrepresented communities, including people with disabilities, people of color, queer, transgender, gender diverse, first-generation, low-income, international, immigrant, undocumented, tribal, and indigenous communities.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the challenges facing students, staff, and faculty from historically underrepresented communities.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate workshop/training curricula on racism, social justice, cultural enrichment, inclusion, and other related areas.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development and skills in support of student communities and their associated organizations.

  • Experience with program development, implementation, and assessment in student affairs or related student services.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
