POSITION SUMMARY:
A Library Specialist provides specialized library support for the educational and research needs of students, faculty, staff and other patrons by providing exemplary customer service, responding to and routing informational needs as appropriate, and by maintaining bibliographical data and processing incoming materials for the library collection.
This position typically reports to a Librarian, Library Operations Manager, or other appropriate administrator regarding customer service and Library Operations. This position requires specialized knowledge of library operations and knowledge of different library data systems such as ALMA/PRIMO VE, ILL OCLC Worldshare or other LMS. This is nonexempt work responsible for data integrity in accordance with national and international bibliographical standards, data importing and exporting through a variety of library databases/systems and some data entry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Works 3pm to 12am, Mon-Thur, 9am to 6pm, Fri, and rotational Sat shifts
Performs service desk duties through circulation of library materials and answering patron questions via phone or email regarding access to library resources, services and patron account. Also answers questions sent to STP-ILL@usf.edu
Creates inventory records for Course Reserve equipment
Monitors operation of building during late night hours, 6pm to 12am, Mondays thru Thursdays and check for IDs at the entrance if CSO officer is not present
Ensures patron compliance with library guidelines and resolves patron incidents independently or work with CSO officer or UPD to de-escalate and resolve situation as needed
In absence of CSO officer, works with late night library staff, to shutdown the 2nd/3rd floor at 12am, Mon-Thur, Fall and Spring Semesters and at 8pm, during Summer Semesters
Works alongside ILL Specialist to coordinate all Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery request processing activities using ILLIAD. Monitors ILLIAD and OCLC for system errors and reports to Dept Manager for resolution.
Ensures efficient processing of borrowing requests, at 80-90% fulfillment rate, with an avg turnaround time of 14 days to a month and lending requests at 70% fulfillment rate, with turnaround time of 18 hours or less.
Assists with ongoing Access Services dept assessments and NPML survey
Assist ILL Specialist in creating training modules or updating ILL manual for updated workflows
Additional responsibilities may be required should circulation circumstances necessitate temporary coverage for staffing shortages

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a high school diploma and two years of customer service experience.
Prefer work in Academic Library setting. Appropriate college coursework may substitute for the required experience.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
Proficient in Word and the basic functions of Excel.
