Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Property Large Loss Claims Specialist applies broad knowledge of current Company policy, applicable regulatory standards, and procedural changes to investigate, evaluate and resolve claims for large personal property losses in a timely and efficient manner as to prevent unnecessary expense to the Company and policyholders, and provide exceptional service to our customers. The Property Large Loss Claims Specialist collaborates with claim owners to evaluate, estimate, and settle the personal property portions of large Property claims or will adjust large Personal Property claims in their entirety.

Essential Job Functions

  • Travel to and from the loss locations to inspect the damaged personal property, identify salvageable vs. total loss items, and develop total loss inventories.

  • Evaluate and properly apply coverage based on the policy contract and applicable state laws; communicate coverage decisions, claim handling expectations, timeframes, and settlement with policyholders or their representatives.

  • Work with policyholders and/or their representatives to obtain pertinent information including ownership of property along with its description, age, condition, value, and quantity.

  • Collaborate with appropriate vendors to assist with obtaining total loss inventories and pricing as well as estimates to pack out, clean, store, and pack back salvageable items; review and negotiate estimates and invoices for accurate indemnity and expense

  • Ensure exceptional service is provided to customers including timely response to phone calls, emails, written communication, and other inquiries throughout the claim handling process. Keep claims on a regular diary to monitor open exposures, the progress of established time frames, and issuing correspondence confirming established time frames; Maintain adherence to Department of Insurance (DOI) requirements

  • Establish reserve amounts within prescribed settlement authority limit and negotiate settlement of claims; Consult with supervisor on claims which exceed personal authority limit for approval

  • Obtain state adjuster licensing where required

  • Other functions as may be assigned including but are not limited to the resolution of recoverable depreciation payments or other supplemental payments on other portions of the claim.

  • Regular attendance at work on a full-time schedule of at least 8 hours and 40 hours per week

Education

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and/or experience

Experience

  • 3-4 years of insurance-related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Custodial use of a Company vehicle is provided; must meet established Company standards regarding personal driving history and current license status to be eligible for this position.

  • Currently hold, or be able to obtain, state Property Adjuster P&C Licenses including, but not limited to, the following states: GA, OK, and TX.

Knowledge and Skills

I can succeed as Property Large Loss Specialist with:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and business computer applications, with particular emphasis on Microsoft Excel;

  • Proficient mathematical skills to accurately compute indemnity, expense, and depreciation amounts;

  • Thorough knowledge of claims operations and Personal Property coverage

  • Moderate knowledge of personal property repair and cleaning procedures; Will be expected to negotiate and make effective decisions on personal property total loss evaluations, cleaning, packout/in, and storage costs.

  • Ability to perform field inspections at least 50% of work time (company car provided) to conduct detailed inspections of residential properties and conduct/oversee inventories of large personal property losses

  • Ability to use advanced video technology to collaborate with onsite vendors and insureds to identify damage and write a damage estimate from a virtual setting when needed.

  • Written and verbal communication skills to effectively and professionally interact with internal and external customers, vendors and other third parties.

  • Ability to adhere to established Company policies and procedures within claims operations.

  • Critical attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

  • Analytical ability necessary to analyze, interpret and evaluate relevant information.
