POSITION: PART-TIME WELDING TECHNOLOGY LAB ASSISTANT - Hall County Campus
REPORTS TO: DEAN OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lanier Technical College is accepting applications for a part time Welding Technology Laboratory Assistant at the Hall County campus. Hours may vary depending on lab offerings and will be determined prior to hire; no more than 29 hours per week.
The Lab Assistant works under the direct supervision of faculty providing administrative and instructional support with lab activities for the Welding technology program. Duties include:
Performing routine maintenance on equipment as instructed
Assisting with inventory and requisition of supplies
Assist faculty with the supervision and mentoring of students during scheduled lab sessions or tutoring sessions as needed
Assist faculty with maintaining a clean and safe lab environment
This is a temporary, part-time position that is appointed on a per-academic-term basis.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Assist faculty members with classroom instruction, exams, record keeping, adherence to safety procedures, tracking attendance and other miscellaneous tasks related to instruction
Tutor or mentor students
Assist with skill checkoffs
Prepare and clean labs as needed
Obtain materials needed for classes, including texts and other materials
Completes ALL required trainings
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Must have at least 2 years of experience in the welding field or have the ability to demonstrate competencies relevant to the position requirements.
COMPETENCIES:
Ability to troubleshoot, research and help solve technical problems
Ability to learn software and hardware tools as applicable to the program
Ability to follow technical instructions
Effective time management skills
Ability to work well with others, i.e. students, faculty, administration
Effective oral and written communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum qualifications and competencies):
Postsecondary training in welding and joining technology from a regionally accredited college or university;
Currently enrolled in welding and joining technology courses at Lanier Technical College, with satisfactory academic progress;
Ability to repair and install equipment;
Ability to install and update software;
Ability to set up and configure trainers;
Ability to lift 25 pounds.
Note: This is a temporary, part-time position that is appointed on a per-academic-term basis. This is an hourly-paid position; up to 29 hours per week while classes are in session.
