POSITION: PART TIME ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (ASN) LABORATORY ASSISTANT - LANIER TECHNICAL COLLEGE; HALL Campus

REPORTS TO: Associate of Science in Nursing Program Director

HOURLY RATE: $25.00/hour - up to 29 hours per week

Effective: October 2024

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Professional ASN Program Laboratory Assistant works under the direct supervision of ASN faculty members and the program director, to provide daily assistance to ASN faculty members and students. The Lab Assistant performs routine standardized laboratory work requiring close attention to detailed procedures in the preparation and basic maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment. The Lab Assistant supports faculty in the supervision of students assigned to learn and practice nursing skills in the skills laboratories, and performs other related duties as assigned. This position will be based at the Lanier Tech Hall campus, in Gainesville, with infrequent travel to the Forsyth campus in Cumming.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Assist ASN faculty members with classroom/laboratory instruction, exams, record keeping, adherence to safety procedures, and other miscellaneous tasks related to laboratory instruction

  • Clean/organize labs as needed

  • Assist with equipment maintenance and inventory

  • Assist with supply par level monitoring and ordering

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a Nursing Fundamentals course or a Nurse Aide certification course

  • Understanding of operating personal computers with experience in using in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

  • Ability to communicate effectively and to be creative and resourceful

  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, and collaboration skills

COMPETENCIES:

  • Use available resources to research policies or technical issues

  • Ability to learn new software and hardware applications

Physical Demands

Will lift or move objects of a light to medium weight, up to 20 pounds. Work is typically performed in an office and lab environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum qualifications & competencies):

  • Successful completion of Nurse Aide Certification, LPN or RN

  • Current CPR (BLS) certification

  • Knowledge of the nursing concepts, terminology, and techniques.

  • Knowledge and understanding of student and faculty requirements for nursing lab procedures, skills, and testing.

NOTE: Lab Assistant positions are temporary, part-time positions of employment that are appointed on a per-academic-term basis. Works up to 29 hours per week.
