Location: Main Campus, Downtown Center Classification: Child Care Center Manager Position Type: Management Anticipated Start Date: August 2024 or Upon Hire Salary/Wage: Annual Salary/Wage Range: Starting Salary Range: $77,977 - $84,340 (Grade 16) Salary/Compensation Statement:

  • Employees newly hired into this position are placed within the first three (3) steps of the salary range. The application is used to determine the initial salary placement for selected candidates. All employment and education history will be considered.

Required QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree with coursework in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or related field is required.

Required Experience:

  • Three (3) years of experience teaching and caring for pre-school and toddler-aged children in a state certified center with two (2) of those years as a head teacher or director.

  • Three (3) years of administrative experience that includes budget management and supervising and coaching staff.

  • The three (3) years of teaching and three (3) years of administrative experience may be concurrent.

Licensure or Certification Requirements

  • A current Oregon Approved Food Handlers Card.

  • Current Infant/Toddler First Aid/CPR card is required.

Conditions of Employment:

  • The selected candidate must adhere to the guidelines of the Oregon Office of Child Care Confidentiality handbook and pass a criminal background check per OAR 471-007-0220.

  • Must meet the state level requirements, which includes review of police/criminal records/history and no felony convictions.

  • Must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education

Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Intervention, Education, or related field.

Preferred Experience

  • Administrative experience in a National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). accredited early childhood program.

  • Experience teaching in a lab school setting.

  • Experience leading and supervising others in the field of Early Childhood Education.

  • Experience with emergent/"Reggio Inspired" approach to teaching and learning.

  • Experience and bilingual proficiency in the Spanish language is preferred.

Position Purpose:

The Child Care Center Manager directs the operations of the Lane Child and Family Center, a NAEYC accredited child development laboratory school. The Manager is responsible for assisting in hiring, supervising staff, overseeing curriculum development and assuring that young children are provided a safe and nurturing learning environment in which early childhood education students perform their practicum experience.

Essential Functions:

Management

  • Responsible for compliance with the Office of Child Care rules and regulations for child care centers.

  • Operate all administrative components of the operation including; enrollment, staff schedules, team facilitation, marketing and public relations, parent orientations, facility tours and special events.

  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of an emergent "Reggio Inspired" curriculum and special needs.

  • Recruit and hire substitute teachers.

  • Assists staff with individual training plans and career goals.

  • Facilitate coordination and feedback from classroom teachers to lab students.

  • Assist the Director of CFE in developing and monitoring the center budget.

  • Responsible for all record keeping required by USDA, Preschool Promise, and the Department of Early Learning and Care

Support/Supervision/Training of Staff

  • Maintain adherence to the required standards for licensing, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Quality Improvement Rating System (QRIS).

  • Observe, train and coach classroom and substitute teachers; reflecting the philosophy taught in the Early Childhood Education classes and as described in the student handbook.

  • Work with special needs, behavior support, parent-teacher communication, training suggestions, etc.

  • Conduct staff meetings and schedule professional development opportunities to maintain required training hours.

  • Facilitate coordination and feedback from classroom teachers to lab students.

  • Oversee and maintain a positive and productive, working and learning environment.

  • Meet with parents discussing special needs, behavior support, parent-teacher communication, training suggestions, etc.

Office Responsibilities

  • Assure food services meet USDA requirements.

  • Ensure the maintenance of the center in a safe and sanitary manner.

  • Ensure adherence to the NAEYC accreditation standards and SPARK.

  • Assist in in developing and monitoring the center budget, assist with office record keeping, monitor and maintain schedules, and contribute and give input into grant proposals.

  • Build relationships with college staff and community child care centers.

  • Plan for and purchase supplies and materials.

  • Professionally represent the center at community activities/meetings.

  • Uses reflective listening and constructive feedback to guide staff, students and parents on a daily basis.

  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Statement:

Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Child and Family Education Director or other supervisor. Work is performed independently according to college and department policies, State and federal rules or regulations. A manager or program coordinator may assign work, provide work priorities and be available to answer questions or troubleshoot problems on a daily basis. Work is reviewed to assure conformance with policies and by results obtained.

This position may have responsibility to assign tasks, provide priorities, train and monitor the work of office support specialists, student assistants and volunteers.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

Physical strength and agility are required to lift children and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires a high level of physical activity to bend, stoop, pursue and carry children. Working conditions include potential exposure to body fluids. Work safely.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of and Skill in:

  • Principles and practices of child development.

  • Implementing emergent/"Reggio Inspired" curriculum activities and materials for young children.

  • Skill in using appropriate communication techniques with children, college students, staff members and parents.

  • Oregon licensing regulations.

  • NAEYC Code of Ethics.

  • Developmentally Appropriate Practices.

  • Familiarity with the following frameworks: Creative Curriculum, Emergent Curriculum, and Reggio Emilia philosophy and with assessment tools such as: TSGold, CLASS, and ECERS.

Ability to:

  • Work cooperatively with staff, faculty and college personnel.

  • Facilitate the practice of the programs philosophy and policies; knowledge of State and local Office of Child Care, National Association for the Education of Young Children and SPARK System regulations and standards.

  • Model and coach appropriate adult-child interactions.

  • Using active listening and constructive feedback to guide staff and students.

  • Observe, coach and provide feedback to teaching staff.

  • Assess the physical health, well being, growth and development of young children.

  • Identify signs of child abuse and neglect and notify appropriate authorities.

  • Prepare written materials for parents and staff such as newsletters and informational handouts.

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Identify staff, student and children's needs and provide appropriate responses.

  • Maintain a patient, caring and respectful attitude.

  • Support staff use of "best practice" curriculum and behavior guidance strategies.

  • Keeping accurate and detailed records on personnel, students and children.

  • Transport children and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Administer First aid and CPR.

  • Meet the demands of working with young children.

  • Ability to meet the standards of a Child Care Director with the Oregon Office of Child Care.
