Job Description
Under direction, be responsible for specialized landscaping and grounds maintenance work at a state institution/university campus, and/or supervise and instruct a small crew in this work; operate and maintain related equipment; perform related work.
Distinguishing Characteristics
A Landscape Technician Senior is measured chiefly by the supervisory responsibilities, acreage, shrub and flower acreage; lawn acreage, and the responsibility to identify and eradicate plant damage and pests/insects beyond common pests. Unlike the Landscape Technician, a Senior is responsible for applying in-depth knowledge of plant types, nutritional requirements and site environment in determining eradication measures.
Minimum Qualifications
There is more than one way to qualify for this position. You must meet at least one of the following combinations of work experience &/or education:
Six months experience in the Idaho State service performing the duties of a Landscape Technician. Successful completion of a recognized course of study in landscape gardening or landscape design may be substituted for this required experience.
One year experience in flower gardening and general grounds maintenance work. Successful completion of a recognized course of study in landscape gardening or landscape design may be substituted for this required experience.
Successful completion of a formal vocational training program in flower gardening and general grounds maintenance work such as Certified Technician in Landscape installation, irrigation, and maintenance/equipment overhaul or those operated under or similar to programs operated by State, Federal, or local agencies through school districts.
Education: Successful completion of a two-year curriculum in ornamental horticulture or landscape work at the junior college or college level.
Or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by the Division of Human Resources.
MQ Specialty Requirement
These positions at ISU require: A valid Driver's license.
