About This Role:

The Gardens at Kansas State University are a horticulture display garden that was established as an educational resource and learning laboratory for K-State students and the visiting public. Under the direction of the Director, the Landscape Technician II provides physical and horticulture support for the entire exterior aesthetics of the garden grounds. This role has wide ranging responsibilities including:

  • mowing
  • trimming
  • edging
  • applications of fungicides
  • insecticides and fertilizers for plant health and herbicides for weed control
  • irrigation maintenance
  • installing trees, shrubs, perennial and annual flowers
  • pruning trees and shrubs
  • maintaining grounds equipment
  • snow removal

This position requires the employee to be on-call for after-hours emergencies from time-to-time.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires six months of relevant experience. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by a hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • One (1) year of general labor, landscape, or construction experience preferred.

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid driver's license at the time of hire and throughout employment.

  • Licensed herbicide applicator is a plus.

  • Knowledge and proficiency with basic computer operating system and programs (Outlook, Excel, Word and Chrome).

  • Basic knowledge in zone 5/6 plant material identification, installation and maintenance is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$30,000 - $35,000
