Scope of Work
Supervises and monitors landfill heavy equipment operators in day-to-day operations and projects. Works as a heavy equipment operator and scalehouse attendant as needed. Acts as the Landfill Manager in his/her absence.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides input as to needed equipment and employment positions.
Essential Job Duties
Schedules and monitors the work of subordinate employees.
Instructs employees in the use, care, and preventive maintenance of equipment and machinery.
Reads schematics, manuals, and other specifications in order to determine and make necessary repairs and maintenance.
Maintains equipment in good working order and keeps records of work performed.
Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of facilities, equipment, tools, and grounds.
Verifies and assures proper handling of receipts and cash deposits as required.
Performs all duties at the Landfill in other employees' absences.
Keeps records and reports readily available.
Coordinates efforts with Solid Waste operations.
Serves as landfill attendant when necessary.
Serves as an equipment operator when necessary.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
Ability to sit, bend, stoop, stand, and drive a vehicle to and from various work sites. Employee will work in seasonal temperatures. Employee may also be exposed to potentially hazardous chemicals, diseases or materials while working in the field. Must be able to lift in excess of 50 lbs and climb 10 ft ladders and work effectively at that height.
Required Qualifications
Ability to effectively communicate with employees and to receive work orders or instructions for any project. Interacts frequently with the public, vendors, and government agency representatives.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Ability to read, interpret, and understand local, state, and federal regulations related to disposal of refuse. Knowledge of processes used in the disposal of solid waste. Skill in the use of various equipment and machinery such as hand and electrical power tools and heavy equipment utilized in disposal activities. Ability to train others in the safe operation of equipment. Ability to work with cash and adhere to cash-handling policies. Ability to properly evaluate activities and make recommendations for improvement. Good public relation skills as well as verbal and written communication skills.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
High school diploma or general education degree required and associates degree preferred. One to three years of experience in supervising and evaluating the work of others. Must possess or acquire a valid Texas Class "B" Municipal Solid Waste Operator License within two years of hire date. Bilingual skills a plus.
