Join Renton Technical College as a Land Surveying Instructor. Reporting directly to the Dean of Advanced Manufacturing this individual must be able to teach all Land Surveying curriculum, which includes the subject areas of field data acquisition and reduction, maps, boundary law, legal descriptions, grading, earthwork calculations, route layout, drainage design, geodesy, GPS, GIS, horizontal and vertical datums, survey related research, photogrammetry, survey post-processing software, survey equipment use and maintenance, and related topics. The curriculum also includes related instruction topics such as mathematics, technical writing, and human relations. Other professional responsibilities include: curriculum development, maintaining office hours at times convenient to the students; serving as an ad-hoc member of the program's advisory committee; serving on departmental and college committees; participating in professional improvement activities; and other related duties as may be assigned by the Dean.

This position is represented by the Renton Federation of Teachers (RFT) Employees Association.This positionis scheduled to begin Fall Quarter 2024. This position is issued as a temporary one-year (9 month) contract with the possibility of continuation as a full-time tenure track position in 2025-2026.The salary for this position is $91,750 - $109,578.Please see Terms of Employment for more information on pay and stipends.RFT Contract | Renton Technical College (rtc.edu). Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include

  • Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes for underrepresented student populations.

  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Support the college's mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking through an equity lens.

  • Effectively teach the adopted curriculum for the Land Surveying program.

  • Participate in the selection and mentoring of part-time faculty for the on-line portion of the program.

  • Design inclusive instructional strategies, including classroom, small groups and individualized instruction, to reach all students, and select and evaluate the materials needed to implement these strategies.

  • Develop and update curriculum as required by the College to respond to industry trends and to improve equitable student outcomes, including coordination for curriculum taught by adjunct instructors .

  • Maintain office hours convenient to students.

  • Participate in recruiting and job placement activities for students with varied backgrounds and career goals.

  • Evaluate student progress towards attaining the learning outcomes, including thoughtfully designed individual assignments, projects, quizzes, and standardized tests.

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff. *

  • Design inclusive instructional strategies, including classroom, small groups and individualized instruction, to reach all students, and select and evaluate the materials needed to implement these strategies.

  • Maintain and submit student records, documentation, and program reports, including assessment reports.

  • Create a professional development plan for this role and that of the adjunct instructors and participate in ongoing improvement activities.

  • Pursue professional growth activities to remain current in Land Surveying and teaching methodology.

  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment for regular use in the program, including traditional and modern field survey equipment and Autodesk standard CAD programs and other software.

  • Actively participate in the Advisory Board meetings and engage with Advisory Board members to address elements of the Program for ongoing success.

  • Engage with the Land Surveyors' Association of Washington annual conference to encourage and offer student participation and education at this event.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership or participation in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.

  • Bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited college or university, related land surveying / geomatics/geospatial technology experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Minimum of four years' recent successful work experience in the land serving field.

  • Proficient in the use of instrumentation such as total stations and data collectors. Experience working with Microsoft Office products, namely Word and Excel. Experience with

AutodeskAutoCAD software and the Land Development Civil and Survey modules.

  • Provide evidence of ability to instruct students in the function and operation of computer software and hardware.

  • Ability to design learning experiences that are interactive and respectful of cultural differences.

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals whose first language is not English.

  • Ability to work effectively and engage with adult learners.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.

  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.

  • Speaker of a language in addition to English is preferred- preference for top spoken languages in the RTC service area (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, Chinese).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

License as a Professional Land Surveyor in Washington within three years of hire date as is expected by WA State Board of Registration to maintain their endorsement as LSIT-prep program in the State. Ideally the candidate is an active member in good standing with the Land Surveyors' Association of Washington.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Classroom Work is sedentary in nature and is performed in an office and classroom environment which is adequately heated and ventilated. Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screens in performing work assignments required. Student contact time is likely to be spent on feet, indoors and outdoors, which may include working in inclement weather.

Degree Stipend:

Master's or Doctorate degree stipends are paid annually.

  • Quarterly Master's stipend: $967
  • Quarterly Doctorate stipend: $1,935
