The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $22.76 - $34.14/hour. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

This technician role will be based out of the Rosedale Maintenance Facility at 2349 S Logan Street in Denver but will be working hands on in the field city wide approximately 80% of the time. The work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

What You'll Do

Denver Parks and Recreation is seeking a Lake Maintenance Technician to support the Denver Parks Lake Management Program's work on 20+ lakes and ponds throughout the parks system.

Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform regular inspection and monitoring of lakes in Denver Parks for potential water quality and wildlife issues

  • Perform algae and vegetation control through an Integrated Pest Management Plan utilizing physical, biological, and chemical means

  • Complete licensed chemical treatments utilizing specialized equipment and products

  • Identify lake and shoreline construction, maintenance, and repair needs

  • Complete regular lake cleanups removing trash, debris, and wildlife

  • Use specialized meters to monitor water quality and record data into speed sheets

  • Direct crews of on call and district staff on lake related projects including shoreline restoration and maintenance

  • Complete regular maintenance and repair on aeration systems installed in several area lakes

  • Keep detailed records and notes on chemical applications, lake inspections, and water quality analysis

  • Assist with Water Conservation irrigation needs:

  • Assist staff with all irrigation needs including Sentinel conversion

  • Perform semiskilled, trades work on a regular basis including inspection, troubleshooting of central control, flow sensing and communications equipment, and other irrigation equipment

  • Perform minor electrical troubleshooting and repair, minor plumbing, and other irrigation related repairs

We are looking for a reliable and knowledgeable lake maintenance professional with strong communication skills and the ability to interact positively with a variety of stakeholders. Additionally, our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in landscape and lakeshore maintenance and repair:

  • Experience with integrated pest management

  • Chemical application equipment uses

  • Specialized water testing equipment use

  • Lakeshore vegetation restoration and maintenance knowledge and plant identification

  • Experience and proficiency with spray equipment, trailers, and boats:

  • Experience with operation and maintenance of small watercraft

  • Ability to operate and maintain chemical application equipment safely and efficiently

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate small to medium truck and trailer combinations in an urban setting

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

  • Certification in Pesticide Application by the State of Colorado or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate

  • Experience: One year of experience performing a variety of duties in construction, mechanical, or facility maintenance

  • Licensures/Certification(s): This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

  • Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
