Responsible for assessment, planning, education and discharge planning for lactation needs. Acts as a resource and support person for staff for the specialty of lactation.
Counsels lactating mothers on an inpatient and outpatient basis for Akron Children's Hospital Lactation service. Responsible for identifying prenatal issues, lactation counseling needs of the mother and family and potential referral needs post discharge. Must be a very collaborative team player with the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams to enhance and support the process of lactation and provision of breastmilk. Patient and family centered care a must.
Hours are variable. Flex schedule to meet the needs of the covering units of: Aultman NICU, Aultman MFM, and Aultman Pediatrics.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Ohio. Current Healthcare Provider BLS and certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant required.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. For new employees hired into positions posted on or after July 1, 2013 BSN required or must obtain BSN within 5 years from date of hire. Must have a minimum experience of 2 years counseling lactating mothers and have demonstrated leadership abilities.
Must be IBCLC Certified. Experience in new program development and working with multi-disciplinary teams are also preferred.
