Distinguishing Features of Work Benefits Supplemental Questions
This is manual work in grounds, building and equipment maintenance activities. As work experience is gained, employees may be assigned to somewhat more difficult tasks. Work is performed under the direction of a supervisor who issues general instructions for routine jobs and specific instructions at the beginning of each new job when departures are made from established procedures.
Examples of Work Performed:
Directs traffic at and around the working face of a construction and demolition (C&D) landfill.
Monitors and sorts materials brought in to a C&D landfill.
Assists skilled and semiskilled workers in varied building maintenance and repair activities.
Shovels snow and breaks ice from streets and walks.
Assists Maintenance Mechanics in performing equipment maintenance.
Completion of work assignments will require operation of a vehicle.

Requirements of Work:
Ability to acquire within a reasonable period of time, knowledge of the procedures, tools, equipment and materials used in maintenance work
Ability to follow simple oral or written instructions
Ability to enter data into computer spreadsheets or other software
Ability to work outdoors when inclement weather conditions exist
Ability to shovel, snow, sand, or gravel
Ability to tolerate exposure to airborne environmental nuisances associated with traffic and machine exhaust, open grounds, and construction.
Ability to tolerate equipment and machinery noise with the use of ear plugs.
Ability to safely and effectively swing a 12-pound sledge hammer against brick, concrete, or similar substances.
Ability to lift and carry bulky items weighing up to 50 pounds
Ability to lift and carry up to 150 pounds with the assistance of another
Ability to pull, shove or otherwise maneuver items weighing up to 150 pounds
Ability to be continuously performing tasks that require one to push, pull, climb (ladders and in and out of vehicular equipment), bend, twist, reach, stand, and walk about (up to a half mile at a time) for most of an eight hour shift
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas Driver's License

Required Experience and Training:
None. Related work experience is preferred. Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check.
