Position Description Benefits Supplemental Questions

The Facility Operations Division of the Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) is seeking a laborer to join the janitorial services team. This position will perform routine manual labor in support of the City Hall events program. The laborer will work with other FAS staff to support events scheduled in the Bertha Knight Landes Room, City Hall Lobby, and City Hall Plaza as well as other locations in the building. Work assignments will include coordinating with security personnel, property management representatives, clients, and janitorial staff to support events in the City Hall. This position reports to the FAS Janitorial Services Manager.

Job Responsibilities:
Assists in set-ups, room arrangements, and office relocations such as in the set up and removal of chairs, risers, portable turnstiles, and flooring.

  • Coordinates work with events and management staff.

  • Loads and unloads materials, equipment, and supplies.

  • May be required to drive pickup trucks and other vehicles in connection with work activities.

  • Operates hand held scrubbers and polishers; sweeps floors and washes windows.

  • Picks up trash, sweeps floors, dusts, washes, disinfects, vacuums, and performs other tasks to keep areas clean.

  • Performs indoor and/or outdoor litter control and cleaning tasks.

  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to perform general laboring/manual work, good physical condition, and the ability to work with hand and power tools is required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • One year of experience performing general laboring/manual work;

  • Ability to work with power tools;

  • Good customer service skills and ability to communicate clearly with management, staff, guests, and clients;

  • Ability to quickly interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form;

  • Must be able to follow established safety guidelines and procedures.

Physical Demands:

  • May be required to work nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

  • Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.

  • Frequently required to lift objects weighing 50 pounds. May occasionally be required to lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds.

  • Occasionally requires handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances.

  • Required to work outdoors in all types of weather.
