This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Laboratory/Field Technician for our Anchorage, AK office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.
An opportunity exists to join our AASHTO-Accredited Laboratory. The focus of the laboratory work includes conducting soil index and strength property testing and maintaining overall laboratory operations, while the field based work includes conducting soil observations, in-situ testing, and construction observations. The successful candidate will be a good communicator who will work closely with our Alaska operations that specializes in fundamental geotechnical engineering applications, cold regions geotechnical engineering aspects, and rock mechanics. Our team thrives on developing client solutions for Arctic challenges.
Your Impact
Conduct routine and moderate to high complexity laboratory tests on soil samples. This includes a range of testing from index testing (such as moisture, grain size, and Atterberg Limits) to more advanced testing (e.g. consolidation, triaxial shear, and permeability).
Organize, track, and complete the laboratory workflow.
Record test data, file, and manage laboratory documentation.
Ensure proper care, handling, storage and disposal of samples and laboratory operations in accordance with standard practices
Maintain a high regard for health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE).
Perform construction observations and field testing.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills and understanding of database software
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
Willing and able to undertake assignments that may involve travel and periods of time away from home office
Comfortable working in remote settings
Passenger vehicle driving will be required for some services
Demonstrating a safety conscious focus
Motivation to own and build your career
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications
Technical diploma or degree in related discipline
Previous experience working in an AASHTO Accredited laboratory
Experience with managing a soil testing laboratory with emphasis on maintaining quality with efficient workflow
Ability to travel up to 40% of the time
WSP
