Laboratory Technologist, Screening Laboratory

You will be expected to

learn and adhere to standard operating procedures in screening samples for drugs in a high throughput laboratory
accurately receive, sort, open and review incoming samples
learn and accurately execute daily: Laboratory Information Management Software (LIMS) to process samples; ELISA screening procedures; analysis, review and reporting of test results; operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment
maintain and ensure high level of accuracy and quality for results, records and documentation
manage time effectively to maintain production levels and meet production goals
contribute, recommend and develop ideas for continuous process improvement and performance for procedures, workflow and the Quality Program
work efficiently, both independently and in a team-oriented environment

Requirements: Bachelors degree in a natural science field or certified Medical Technologist. Two (2) years of experience working in a laboratory environment. Previous work experience in a high throughput laboratory preferred.

VIEW JOBS 11/16/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-14T00:00 ROLE SUMMARY This is an entry level position in the Kalamazoo QO Rapid Turn Laboratory working on third shift (11:00PM – 7:30AM). Opportunity for schedule flexibility exists as the Laboratory supports business and customer needs on weekends and holidays. This position qualifies for a shift premium. Technologies employed in the Rapid Turn Laboratory include HPLC, GC, titrations, Karl Fisher, UV, and general analytical procedures. This position is part of a career path/progression. If you are already on the career path/progression and you are selected for the position, you will transfer laterally with no grade change if the position was posted at your current grade. However, if your grade is different than the posted grade and you are identified as the top candidate for the position, the posting will be re-opened for five days at your grade, with the candidate identified box checked. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES * Works effectively in a fast-paced, customer-oriented, team laboratory environment to analyze in-process materials, solvents, raw materials, APIs, and/or finished product samples in direct support of the company's production units. * Performs, documents, record checks, and troubleshoots qualitative or quantitative assays on samples using techniques that vary from use of standard laboratory equipment to highly modern and automated instrumentation. * Interprets and evaluates data in terms of accuracy, precision, trends, and potential GMP impact and recommends appropriate corrective action where necessary. High productivity and the ability to multi-task coupled with a low error rate and attention to detail are critical characteristics of this position. * Additionally, must demonstrate flexibility/agility and engagement in a changing environment. The candidate is expected to display good laboratory technique to avoid cross-contamination or misidentification of samples. Participates in laboratory investigations as required. * This position is in the Rapid Turn Laboratory on 3rd shift and requires the colleague to work weekends and/or holidays as needed to meet business or customer needs. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Education: BA/BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a Related Science preferred. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * The preferred candidate has 0 - 3 years related experience in Quality Operations. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Laboratory and office work requiring walking, standing, and sitting throughout a shift. Lifting of items less than 25 kg. Ability to perform mathematical calculations and complex data analysis. NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS This position may require colleagues to work extended hours to meet business or customer needs. All Laboratory colleagues adhere to safe work practices such as wearing appropriate personal protective equipment including lab coat, safety glasses, and gloves. There is no routine travel associated with this position.
