Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

This position is responsible for daily tasks associated with the implementation of multiple basic biomedical research projects. This position also oversees the day-to-day management of the mouse colony and laboratory, showing students how to use equipment properly and completing experiments for future publications. The group in the Laboratory of Dr. Grimsey conducts cell and molecular biology research using mammalian tissue culture, molecular biology, and confocal microscopy while training undergraduate and graduate students.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Organizational, time, and team management skills.
  • Strong cell biology background with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology experience.
  • Experience working with mice.

Physical Demands

  • Receiving, unpacking, and stacking any supplies that arrive.
  • Moving items around 10-15lbs (with help).

  • Oversee the daily running of the lab.
  • Perform experiments and aid students during their experiments.
  • Organize, maintain, and prepare core laboratory reagents and buffers.

  • Maintain the experimental mouse colony.

  • Manage daily stock of delivered products and current supplies.
  • Keep up with inventory in the laboratory, process orders to purchase supplies, and keep lab essential items stocked for research.

  • Contribute to the scientific productivity of the laboratory by performing independent directed research that contributes to the goals of the PI.
  • Interpret research data and bring issues to the PI for discussion and to design new approaches for reaching the desired goal.
