Role Summary:

The laboratory technician will assist engineers in performing lab studies on rubber compounds. As a key member of the Seals and Materials Center of Excellence, the individual will generate data and deliver results that are a key part of developing new rubber compounds to the Subsea Drilling business.

Essential Responsibilities:

The qualified individual will perform laboratory procedures including:

  • Operation of laboratory equipment

  • Testing of rubber specimens

  • Entering and calculating results

  • Operation of instruments

  • Assisting in the development of new procedures and protocols

  • Troubleshooting issues with instruments and equipment

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 3+ years' experience in laboratory operations and testing

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution in technology or science, or prior experience specific to this role

  • Flexibility to work overtime during specific phases of projects

  • Conformance to all safety, health and environmental rules at all times

Desired Characteristics:

  • Prior experience in rubber mixing and testing

  • Attention to detail and ability to properly operate sensitive instruments

  • Ability to make accurate measurements and follow test procedures without errors

  • Good organizational skill and ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment

  • Exhibit integrity and transparency in work functions

  • Ability to take direction and raise questions as needed

Maintenance of cell cultures, collection and sampling of CCM. Assist management in the coordination of activities, completion of inventory transactions and all relevant documentation compliant with cGMP and GDP guidelines. Actively involved in Technology Transfer Team, which includes technology transfer and scale up via written process transmittals and on-site support to the upstream manufacturing team. Support other cell culture activities, such as: assisting with the cleaning and sterilization of all components, containers, and associated equipment used in the production department. Key Duties and Responsibilities: 40% Responsible for the initiation and maintenance of human fibroblast cells grown in a bioreactor process inside a cleanroom environment including the coordination and completion of all relevant activities and documentation compliant with cGMP and GDP guidelines. 20% Design and execute studies to identify and determine appropriate ranges of (critical) process parameters for upstream development and technology transfer. 20% Monitor and troubleshoot bioreactor challenges to establish replicable cellular process parameters and perform data analysis to develop scalable, robust, high yielding, and economically viable cell culture processes for commercial production. 20% Record and analyze experimental data, verify data integrity and accuracy, and report/summarize findings to the project team, and draft technical documents and perform other technology transfer and scale up activities in collaboration with internal and external partners. This role requires extensive problem-solving as it relates to new technologies and new processing for cell cultures; requires hands-on expertise with bioreactors This role directly impacts the new technology application for the Houston site and is responsible for its successful transfer/launch and subsequent commercialization. The role will interface with external customers in R&D, GPT and others in Global Ops. The role will interface with manufacturing and quality staff at the site to ensure successful implementation of the new technology. Job qualifications (Minimum Requirements): Education and Experience: * Bachelors degree required preferably in a Natural Science, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field * A least 4 years hands-on experience with upstream process development (mammalian cell culture, bioreactors, bioreactor process development, and bioreactor data analysis), preferably Applikon technology * Strong understanding of biology, cell physiology and cell culture parameters in bioreactor and spinner vessel processes * Experience working in a GMP regulated environment preferred The Planet Group of Companies is an equal opportunity employer.
