Position Title Laboratory Technician (Part-Time) Position Number 896418 School/Division Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences-Natural Science Department Full-Time or Part-Time Part-Time Description
The Wang Lab at the Department of Biology at Hofstra University seeks to fill an opening for a part-time laboratory technician. Reporting to the Principal Laboratory Investigator, the Laboratory Technician will have primary responsibility for managing a maize genetics research laboratory to study the epigenetic mechanisms of maize transposon silencing. The laboratory technician will oversee the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, and responsibilities will include ordering, preparing, and organizing lab chemicals and supplies, maintaining maize stocks, and assisting in the supervision of student researchers. This position is contingent upon grant funding.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assists with nucleic acid extraction, gel electrophoresis, qPCR, and data analysis.
Helps organize, train, and monitor the progress of student research projects.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related major required.
At least one year (or two semesters) of wet lab research experience.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with fieldwork and greenhouse preferred.
Experience in plant genotyping and qRT-PCR.

Salary/Salary Range $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
