The LABORATORY ASSISTANT works under the direction of the MANAGER, MEDICAL LABORATORY.
Promotes and exemplifies the mission and values of The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis and supports the goals of OSF Healthcare System; according to established policies and procedures, may perform phlebotomy duties; prepares, logs and labels specimens; determines quality of specimen submitted including proper collections and labeling; if required by department protocol: centrifuges, aliquots, and delivers specimens to laboratory sections; prepares specimens for automated analysis; performs automated analysis and other limited testing; maintains professional relationship with patients, staff, and physicians; completes all associated paperwork; organizes and prioritizes assigned work load to include: specimen processing, computer data entry and report generation; performs physician order entry duties as necessary; completes all other duties as assigned by the MANAGER, MEDICAL LABORATORY.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Certified phlebotomist or registry eligible (1,000 hours of experience), with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) with three months on-the-job experience; or, 1 year of experience in phlebotomy and performance of laboratory tests.
Registered/registry eligible (1,000 hours of experience), with ASCP.
