Job Description

Position PURPOSE:

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for conducting quality analysis of calibration standards used in the Lighthouse headspace gas analyzer product line and for supporting measurement service projects for clients in the pharmaceutical industry.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct quality analysis of customer calibration standards fabricated by Lighthouse
  • Support customer Measurement Services Projects
    • Collect and analyze data using Lighthouse core technology of laser spectroscopy
    • Generate reports to present results to clients
  • Participate in experimental investigations for new application development
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and laboratory quality system
  • Support other functional department activities as assigned by management including:
    • Technical writing projects (application notes, white papers) in support of marketing
    • Instrument installation and validation in support of sales

  • Required: AS Physical or Life Sciences
  • 0-2 years of experience
  • Laboratory experience or coursework

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

VIEW JOBS 4/18/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-07-17T00:00 The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia seeks either a Laboratory and Research Technician 2 or a Laboratory Specialist (depending on qualifications) to assist investigators with experiments designed to investigate sphingolipids in cancer and ocular diseases. The individual will predominantly be performing rodent-based assays (e.g. angiogenesis, leukocyte adhesion, cancer models), maintaining mouse colonies, and performing immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy. Additional experimental approaches may entail flow cytometry, western blotting, and preparation of samples for mass spectrometry. Skill sets in biochemistry, cellular biology, and physiology are desired. The Lab Specialist would additionally provide ACUC and EHS compliance management, coordination of laboratory meetings, laboratory maintenance, and order laboratory supplies. To be considered for the Laboratory and Research Technician 2 position, an Associate's degree in biology, chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline is required, as well as at least two years of laboratory experience (which may include student experience) in an academic or industrial laboratory setting. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and statistical/bioinformatics analyses is also required. Further, to be competitive for the Laboratory and Research Technician 2 position, the incumbent must be able to provide complex technical support for projects and engage in complex scientific experiments, must be able to handle complex administrative and logistical tasks, and must be able to operate under supervision with a degree of independence when following set protocols and procedures. To be considered for the Laboratory Specialist position, a Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline is required, as well as one-to-four years laboratory experience in an academic or industrial laboratory setting. Relevant student experience will be considered. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and statistical/bioinformatics analyses is also required. Further, to be competitive for the Laboratory Specialist position, incumbent must be able to perform complex lab and research related tasks, acting as a specialist on research methods and equipment functions specific to the investigations in the lab. Incumbent must also be able to perform daily activities without supervision and must be able to train others on work processes and policies.
