This is a technical position within the Center for Musculoskeletal Research (CMSR) Histology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Imaging (HBMI) Core and the Biomechanics, Biomaterials, and Multimodal Tissue Imaging (BBMTI) Core requiring basic laboratory experience preferably including histology and microscopy. The job consists of technical laboratory work related to the preparation, processing, sectioning, and staining of preserved animal and human musculoskeletal tissues for research purposes. This position requires basic research skills along with strong organization and communication skills. Hours of the position are 8:30am 5:00pm Monday through Friday (flexible).
Preparation of tissue specimens including: fixation, decalcification, processing (automated paraffin), embedding (paraffin and frozen), and sectioning (paraffin, decalcified, and undecalcified plastic-embedded, and frozen).
Perform routine and special stains on frozen and paraffin sections.
Performing/assisting in biomolecular imaging and mechanical testing tasks in the BBMTI Core
Performing basic maintenance and troubleshooting tasks, and coordinating with the manufacturers to maintain the service agreements, preventive maintenance, and periodic calibration in both Cores including maintenance of the Olympus VS120 Whole Slide Imaging system and Visiopharm automated histomorphometry software, the OsteoMeasure manual histomorphometry system, and all fluorescence and brightfield microscopes and associated computers.
Maintain records and inventory of all reagents and protocols and perform routine maintenance and cleaning of automated processor, automated and manual microtomes, tissue embedding center, and other HBMI Core equipment.
Maintaining and updating the testing and imaging protocols in the BBMTI Core.
Maintain records of Investigator use and prepare invoices for monthly billing in HBMI Core. Managing the scheduling and multimodal imaging sessions at the IVIS spectrum core facility in addition to keeping usage logs and generating invoices for internal billing.
Interface with the Anolik Lab to provide consultation on cell sorting from MSK samples for RNA sequencing.
Associate's degree plus 2-3 years for specialized experience.
