Summary:

The Department of Surgery (Division of Acute Care Surgery) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Lab Technician to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting ongoing research initiatives in the field of trauma and critical care.

The research includes the study of mechanisms of injury in hemorrhagic shock including the loss of oxygen transfer in the microcirculation and trauma-induced coagulopathies seen after shock. The position involves working closely with the research team, participating in experimental procedures, and ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratory. This position would focus on laboratory work that would promote these goals through cellular and animal models of disease and analysis of therapeutic compounds.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in science or related field

Experience in a physiology or pharmacology laboratory setting

Experience with animal models of cardiovascular disease and good laboratory skills.

Experience working independently in a laboratory setting

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with shock models and coagulation

Experience with a team and group science

Experience with lab management tasks
