Job Summary
Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring a Lab Tech to support the Computer Lab. This position provides technical and instructional support in a higher education computer lab setting; will focus on supporting students with technological literacy to include tutoring students with Microsoft Office applications, programming languages, help desk support, computer programs, learning management systems and a variety of computer hardware and software applications.
Please note this job has an expected job end date of June 30, 2025.
Essential Functions
60% - Assists students with software, hardware and instructional questions pertaining to courses including tutoring; assists students with computer procedures (DUO, password authentication), and maintaining the assigned computer lab and troubleshoots hardware/software, configure and support system components and installation.
20% - Assists with preparing and evaluating statistical data on student use of facilities and programs, inputting and tracking student data, facility use, and support.
15% - Provides support to staff in tutoring, customer service and reinforcement of classroom instruction. Communicates effectively orally and in writing to establish working relationships with individuals in performing assigned duties.
5% - Works on special projects such as instructional guides, handouts, etc. Other duties commensurate to the grade level of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution and one (1) year of full-time equivalent laboratory experience such as maintaining equipment, facility space, supplies or other resources used for laboratory purposes in area of assignment.
OR
High school diploma/GED and three (3) years of full-time equivalent laboratory experience such as maintaining equipment, facility space, supplies or other resources used for laboratory purposes in area of assignment.
Desired Qualifications
A. Bachelor's degree and/or certificate/training in a technology or related field
B. Two (2) years' experience tutoring all levels of computer courses for a diverse population of students in a high school, college or university computer lab.
C. Two (2) or more years of experience in computing technology such as office applications, programming, multimedia, etc.
D. Two (2) or more years' experience working in a computer laboratory learning center in an institution of higher education or similar setting and collecting statistical data.
E. Two years' experience using administrative and instructional support learning assistance technologies (e.g., TutorTrac, Canvas, Blackboard, Cranium Cafe, LMS, etc.), MS Office including video tutorials and presentations as it applies to this position.
Special Working Conditions
May require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and prolonged viewing of CRT (computer monitor) screen. The incumbent will be required to work in an area of light noise levels daily.
