Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for supervising, performing and coordinating the technical operations of the Lab at Wildlight. The supervisor will ensure the provision of timely and accurate laboratory services to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Develop, implement and ensure that policies and procedures are compliant with regulatory and accreditation agencies. This position is responsible for the performance, quality and accuracy of the results reported; maintenance of instrumentation, including scheduled, preventive, and troubleshooting as needed; preparation of standards, calibrators and reagents; adherence to the laboratory quality management program. This position will assume administrative duties including supervising operations and personnel for the Laboratory.
Supervise the day-to-day technical operations of the laboratory. Perform laboratory testing of human biological samples for diagnostic purposes using various methodologies. Ensure that accurate, adequate laboratory services are provided in a timely fashion. Use knowledge, experience and creativity to implement change and improvements.
Oversee the receipt, prioritizing and the acceptance/rejection of specimens. Perform moderate procedures to provide data for the use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Operate and maintain laboratory analyzers. Make independent decisions to report normal and abnormal test results.
Write, review and implement policies and procedures for approval by the Medical or Administrative Director. Ensure that UF Health Wildlight policies are enforced.
Perform personnel action including hiring recommendations, performance evaluations and disciplinary actions. Oversee and complete payroll functions. Schedule staff and make workload assignments.
Ensure that laboratory staff are supported and prepared to serve our customers.
Represent laboratory management in meetings and on committees. Work cooperatively with others to achieve organizational goals. Perform all assigned duties in a caring and professional manner, serving as a model to create a customer-focused environment.
Prepare, implement and control the laboratory budget in conjunction with the Director. Evaluate analyzer and procedures to recommend for capital purchase.
Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory trainings. Participate in weekend schedule coverage.
Troubleshooting instruments; Assist with IT testing/validations for lab computer.
Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical or unusual situations. Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures and levels of responsibility. required to make independent judgments without supervision. Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
Ability to calculate test results.
Mathematical skills to calculate doses, results, and other data.
Prior Clinical Laboratory experience in the areas of Chemistry, Immunology, Hematology and Coagulation.
Phlebotomy skills in all age groups. Follows procedures for blood collections and solves problems related to processing and blood collection.
Laboratory supervisory experience
Bachelors Medical Terminology required or Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory supervisor in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology and Serology under Chapter 483, Florida Statutes.
