Primary Function/Primary Goals/Objectives:
Lead all aspects of the Microbiology Laboratory in our infant formula and nutritional manufacturing facility. This position can be a grade 14 or 16 depending on experience.

Responsible for the overall results for all 3 shifts of a 7-day multi shift laboratory operations
Model and promote the behaviors that ensure delivery of high quality products for our customers while championing compliance with Abbott policies and procedures, meeting all local and statutory requirements, adhering to the regulatory requirements of countries to which products are shipped and initiating, managing and making decisions which impact product quality
Model and promote a thorough understanding of what drives product costs, profitability and cash flow within the shift, team and department, while operating within budget with a focus on margin, material utilization and Cost Improvement Program (CIP) goals. Train others in this understanding for operator engagement and involvement in cost management.
Manage financial statements and budgetary responsibilities; share accountability for department budgetary decisions with direct manager. Track, trend and continuously improve budgetary performance for overtime(OT), direct expenses, HPL, labor, year over year CIP and material usage (Note: This list is not all inclusive).
Drive HPL and MSP (Master Schedule Performance) objectives; understand drivers and developing and executing plans around improvement of lab performance and quality metrics. Understand all key performance indicators, developing, driving and leading the execution of plans through utilization and involvement of all team and support resources
Develop plans and execute efforts required to train and develop employees to improve overall laboratory capability to deliver performance results. Create a learning environment and support individuals learning and development plants.
Coach and direct individuals and teams to meet performance goals and objectives. Directly supervises team and leads staffing activities
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system
Develop and maintain an operating budget for the Microbiology QA laboratories. Manage to ensure budgetary and staff requirements are properly met.
Provide product and manufacturing microbial support for all manufacturing areas of the site. Interface with Division personnel in the development of microbiological guidelines and specifications. Manage laboratory personnel, including staffing, performance reviews, train and develop personnel and maintain safe lab environment.
Develop and administer a technically sound Environmental Monitoring Program, updating as appropriate. Lead problem solving efforts related to microbial issues. Direct plant initiated microbiological certification activities resulting from new or modified manufacturing facilities or processes.
Interface with Division and Corporate QA, Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, Regulatory Affairs and Purchasing to ensure timely completion of project activities. Provide technical guidance and support to plant. Assure lab test results reflect compliance to plant, division and corporate guidelines and procedures.
Assure test methods are followed. Attend plant MRB meetings to communicate and oversee microbiological issues. Develop and track RCE's for laboratory equipment and facilities.
Bachelors Degree in Science, Food Technology, technical or 5+ years of experience in laboratory setting required with preference being for food, pharmaceutical or medical devices.
