Minimum Qualifications Active list candidate on the New York State Department of Civil Service's Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) Select titles eligible list #26-240 with a score of 100.0 or higher OR qualified 55b/c candidate in possession of a bachelor's degree or higher degree.

Preferred Qualifications:
Professional work experience in clinical laboratory sciences, biology, microbiology, veterinary medicine, wildlife biology, public health or infectious diseases.

Experience in necropsy, fluorescent microscopy, data management, cell culture, and molecular techniques. Bachelor's degree in biological or chemical sciences and a minimum of two years' experience in the handling of infectious clinical samples and/or human pathogens at biosafety level 2 containment. Excellent written and oral communication skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office programs including Access, Excel and Word.

Duties Description The selected candidate will be trained in the laboratory methods and processes for rabies diagnosis including specimen processing, data analysis, laboratory techniques, necropsy, microscopy, and waste management. Once trained, the candidate will be expected to work well with the lab team and independently.

Additional Comments Permanent or contingent-permanent, full-time. This is a two-year traineeship leading to a G18.

Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment and may undergo pre-employment and /or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations. In addition, dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position satisfactory background checks may also be required.
