This temporary position is located in Raleigh - Wake County.
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $38.05 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).
This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services. This position is located at 4312 District Drive, Raleigh, NC 27699.
Laboratory Medical Specialist position will perform new method validations for the detection and characterization of Legionella species from clinical specimens using Real-time PCR. The methods developed at this position will assist in North Carolina Legionella outbreak investigations and response.
Job duties include but may not be limited to:
Responsible for new method validations including organism inactivation, DNA extraction, and Real-time PCR.
Performing sample spiking, plating, microscopy, identification, and colony counts.
Assisting in establishing and documenting new method performance characteristics including accuracy, precision, analytical sensitivity and specificity, reportable range, etc.

Experience and knowledge of both classical microbiological techniques and molecular biological techniques is essential.
The successful candidate for this position must meet the CLIA '88 requirements for testing personnel in a high complexity laboratory.

Public Health Labs Minimum Education and Experience Bachelors degree in medical technology, microbiology, chemistry or a closely related biological science field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in a medical laboratory or in the assigned work area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications Must be capable of meeting the Federal CLIA 88 personnel requirements for a general supervisor in a laboratory performing high complexity testing.
Other Labs Minimum Education and Experience Bachelors degree in medical technology, microbiology, chemistry or a closely related biological science field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in a laboratory in the assigned work area; or an equivalent combination or education and experience.
