The New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) is an integral component of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. The experiment station provides a diverse range of research, extension, and education programs that serve the people of New Jersey and the urban, suburban, and rural communities in which they live. Through its Cooperative Extension offices in all 21 New Jersey counties, dedicated 4-H agents, Extension specialists, Family & Community Health Sciences educators, and Agriculture and Natural Resources agents work to serve New Jersey residents in every area of the state. In addition, off-campus field stations and farms focus on research ranging from support for fisheries, agriculture and allied businesses to support for youth and teens, while several centers and institutes on the George H. Cook Campus at Rutgers-New Brunswick engage in world-class research to provide solutions for a range of issues faced by New Jersey residents.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Researcher III for the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station. The mission of the Food Innovation Center
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
Prepares routine and non-routine samples for chemical analysis, analysis of samples using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry techniques, management of analysis data, organizing and handling data for interpretation and reporting, and other specialized tasks in the laboratory.
Multi-tasks and undertakes several projects simultaneously to ensure completion of projects within deadlines.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
B.S. in Chemistry, Food Science, or allied field required.
Requires 2 years of relevant professional experience working in an analytical laboratory technician function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.
Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience with operation of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-MS) systems, basic bench chemistry techniques and practices (pipetting, liquid/liquid extraction, solid phase extraction, centrifugation, pH measurement, etc.).
Requires experience in operating and maintaining GC-MS and HPLC-MS systems.
Knowledge and experience in working with chromatography and mass spectrometry instrumentation is required, as independent operation of these systems will comprise a majority of this role's time.
The person in the position must be able to work independently when conducting routine analyses and be able to follow written or verbal instructions.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role requires the ability to stand and walk for the majority of the work day.
The lab is a fast-paced environment with numerous projects occurring simultaneously at any given time.
Applicant must be comfortable in such an environment.
