This role involves novel work on isolating and characterization of small airway epithelial (SAE) cells and Alveolar type II cells, as well as general lab management involving participation in daily operations including ordering, record keeping and compliance with health and safety procedures.

The MLI Tissue Procurement and Cell Culture Core (The Core) provides human airway cells, custom media, human lung tissue, and well-differentiated cell cultures to define the pathogenesis of cystic fibrosis (CF) and other pulmonary disorders, and to understand the functions of the respiratory epithelium. We have helped develop methods to expand cell populations that will facilitate personalizing of CF therapies. We offer consultative support to facilitate the research of members of the Cystic Fibrosis Center and collaborators around the globe as we are a national resource for human cystic fibrosis (CF) and non-CF airway epithelial cells. We employ scientific techniques including: Cell Biology (aseptic technique, cell culture husbandry, FACS); Dissections (human lungs, oral tissues, nasal tissues, animal tissues); Microscopy (immunohistochemistry, widefield and confocal microscopy).
