Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and optimize the emission laboratory testing and measurement equipment

  • Diagnose equipment and software issues and assist with problem resolution

  • Oversee vendors to implement service, installation and repair of facility and measurement equipment for emissions testing, manage time-lines and deliverables of these projects

  • Oversees facility and equipment maintenance and calibration in accordance with regulations and MCG standards

  • Maintain emission consumable inventories including procurement

  • Maintain and update work instructions and standard operating procedures

  • Experience in Vehicle Emissions Testing at an Automotive OEM level

  • Manage select projects

  • Support the MCG audit preparations efforts

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree- Automotive/ Mechanical Engineering

  • 2 years of relevant experience

  • Knowledge of passenger vehicle engine technology, combustion and related exhaust products, and exhaust after-treatment technologies

  • Expert knowledge of exhaust emissions measurement techniques and equipment

  • Knowledge of US Federal (Tier 2, Tier 3, 1066) and California (LEV 2, LEV 3) Emissions Standards

  • Strong analysis and problem assessment skills. Ability to collect data and establish facts and identify trends and variances

  • Ability to formulate and test hypothesis for the purpose of forecasting outcomes

  • Articulate communication and interpersonal skills to work with a variety of levels in a multicultural environment

  • Comprehensive knowledge of emission testing equipment, procedures and regulations

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule

  • Minimum of 2 years emission testing or engineering experience

  • Requires a valid us driver's license

The fully trained individual must develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of:

  • Company policies and procedures

  • Company goals and vision

  • Departmental practices and procedures

  • Interdepartmental relationships and their effect on company, departmental and individual goals

  • Software that is applicable to the job

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Horiba emissions measurement and analysis systems

Job Summary A full-time technician position is available in the Baucom lab in the EEB Dept at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. General research in the laboratory addresses plant adaptation to environmental stresses. Duties will include working at the University's main campus, in the nearby greenhouses, at nearby field sites, and will include travel for field experiments. NOTE: This is a one (1) year term limited appointment with a start date of approximately Jan 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019. Responsibilities* Carry out large growth chamber, greenhouse and field studies (40%) – develop and implement greenhouse experiments to monitor plant adaptation to environmental stress. Monitor and maintain the health and welfare of the lab's Ipomoea lines within the greenhouse. Includes general upkeep of plants in the greenhouse and maintenance of crossing records. Adhere to all University of Michigan policies and procedures for laboratory/greenhouse research. General lab maintenance (10%) - Clean and maintain equipment. Act as the primary resource for lab safety management. Oversee undergraduate in basic lab maintenance tasks and lab safety. Responsible for ordering research and laboratory supplies. Field experiments (40%) – Perform field experiments, most likely at field sites in the southern US during the summer, 2019. Maintain databases of lab Ipomoea seed collections, chemicals, and supplies ordered. Potential trips to collect weed seeds from the field in the fall. Mentor 1-2 undergraduate students (10%) Required Qualifications* Associate's degree in biology, genetics, horticulture or plant sciences with 1-2 years of previous experience performing independent research, the ability to work well in a group environment, and the willingness to mentor undergraduates. Desired Qualifications* Experience with basic molecular techniques such as DNA isolation and PCR is desired.
