Laboratory Associate

Tierra Biosciences, a venture capital backed life science company, has pioneered a novel high-throughput protein production platform that produces hundreds of custom proteins on-demand. Our platform can make proteins faster than other technologies and has the potential to onboard novel methods quickly. We use cell-free synthetic biology to bring the power and throughput of genomics technologies into protein production. We are looking for a Laboratory Associate who will be responsible for performing laboratory duties, primarily to support our biological manufacturing activities and secondarily to support our research activities. They will ensure that custom proteins that are ordered by our customers are manufactured on-time and to quality specifications.

JOB DUTIES

• Produce custom proteins and follow work procedures according to GMPs and SOPs to meet production schedules.

• Prepare biological reagents and materials to assist with manufacturing.

• Perform tasks related to packaging and labeling finished products.

• Perform tasks relating to manufacturing, operations, and quality control.

• Assist with tasks relating to sustaining engineering.

• Assist to technology transfer R&D innovations to manufacturing.

• Identify and alert supervisor of any issues with production batches.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• AS degree or equivalent technical skills, BA/BS is a plus.

• 2+ years of work experience in a biological research laboratory or related field.

• Sound knowledge of standard laboratory procedures, biological equipment, and record keeping.

• Proficient in MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

• Good organizational skills, flexibility in thinking and approach, and self-directed.

• Must be able to lift/move up to 25 pounds.

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Previous industry biotechnology work experience.

• Comfort with liquid handling, pipetting, and working with laboratory automation.

• Previous experience conducting biological manufacturing.

• Pervious experience with technology transfer, operations, sustaining engineering, or quality control.

This is a non-exempt position with a projected salary range of $25 to $35 per hour, based on qualifications.
