Laboratory Assistant - PRN Night Shift

As a Laboratory Assistant II at Martin South Hospital, you will perform various laboratory procedures. This small, cohesive team recognizes that there is a person behind every sample and works together to provide the best possible care for patients and achieve excellence.

Responsibilities:

• Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting and storing specimens.

• Operates laboratory equipment and performs routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and minor repairs.

• Performs quality assurance activities.

• Maintains adequate stock of supplies and manages the inventory by transporting and distributing supplies. Other duties as assigned.

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED.

Certifications:

• None required.

Complexity of Work:

• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

• Requires three months on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation and CCF policies.

Physical Requirements:

• Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation.

• Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed.

• Requires frequent sitting or standing.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
