Job Summary

• The Laboratory Assistant specializes in the pre-analytic functions of the clinical laboratory, and performs various testing and processing procedures on patient specimens to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

• Test performance and reporting is defined as specified by CLIA. Job duties include organizing specimen collection requests, specimen transport, specimen processing, testing dispersal, point-of-care testing procedures, and other pre-analytic functions following established standards and practices.

• Utilizes scientific principles as well as technical, procedural, and problem-solving aptitudes for day-to-day laboratory technical operations.

• The Laboratory Assistant supports and assists at the direction of the Medical Laboratory Scientist.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

• Associate's degree or equivalent credits from a college or technical school OR 1 year laboratory related experience required.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS

• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) or Phlebotomist Technician (PBT) from the ASCP preferred.

Work Schedule

• Evening Shift: Monday

• Friday

• 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm

• Occasional holiday as needed

• Full Time; 80 hours every 2 weeks

Pay

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

• $18.25 - $24.00 per hour
