Position Summary

Under direct supervision, provides routine assistance in the performance of laboratory testing. Cleans, breaks down, and stores laboratory equipment and supplies as appropriate. May keep routine records and reports on laboratory results according to established procedures.

Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities

  • Prepares standard equipment, facilities, and/or solutions for laboratory experiments in accordance with detailed procedures and instructions.

  • Cleans, breaks down, and stores laboratory equipment and supplies after completion of laboratory exercises, as required.

  • Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.

  • Knowledge of specified laboratory solutions, materials and/or media.

  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.

  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures and specifications of specified laboratory equipment and/or facilities.

  • Successful completion of senior year of high school.

Experience

Licensure, Registration, Certification

High school diploma required.

Physical Requirements

Work requires some physical effort. Frequent walking, standing, and grasping with both hands. Lifting or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) is required.

Environmental Conditions

Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions or undesirable elements, may involve exposure to a variety or elements which are potentially hazardous or harmful which require exercise of well-defined precautions for protection from injury or illness.

As a Petroleum Laboratory Specialist for the Army National Guard, your main responsibility will be to ensure the quality, purity, and durability of all fuels used in Army operations. As a Petroleum Laboratory Specialist, you will supervise or conduct laboratory tests on petroleum, oil, and lubricant products. Specific duties may include: obtaining or receiving petroleum product samples; conducting laboratory tests for contaminants strength, and toxic qualities; evaluating test results against specification requirements; making recommendations regarding product disposition; following fire prevention and safety control procedures; testing on clothing, food, paints, and plastics; and keeping detailed laboratory records and files.
