JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Agricultural Analytical Services Laboratory (AASL) provides analytical testing and research-based recommendations to support sustainable resource management decisions. The lab offers comprehensive analyses of soil, water, plant tissue, manure, compost, and other agricultural materials. The fee-based services are available to all University faculty and staff as well as the general public.
This position plays an integral role at AASL. Primary responsibilities are in the Soil Fertility Program, but the position also assists the Compost, Manure, Water, and Plant Analysis Programs.
Position requires attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment. Typical duties include sample receipt, preparation for analysis (sample grinding, weighing, extraction, and filtration), preparation of reagents and extraction solutions, operation of analytical instrumentation and equipment, and data entry/import. All tasks are performed following laboratory standard operating procedures. This position operates a university vehicle daily for delivery of samples and supplies.
Required Experience and Education:
Bachelor's degree in agricultural or environmental science or a related field and 1+ year of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Preferred Education, Experience:
Preference will be given to candidates that possess a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural or environmental science or a related field and experience testing soil, agricultural, or environmental samples. Proficient in the use of MS Excel and Word and experience using relational databases (e.g., Filemaker, MS Access).
