A nationwide firm seeks a 5-10+ year Labor & Employment Associate for its Los Angeles office.
This position principally involves handling all employment-related matters, including compliance with federal, state and local laws regulating employment.
Our practice involves administrative, arbitration, and trial and appellate litigation, representing management in discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, workers' compensation retaliation, civil rights, employment related tort claims, trade secret/breach of fiduciary duty, "whistleblower" and other employment-related claims, enforcement of and defense against covenants not to compete, and class actions, representative actions for unpaid overtime under the FLSA, and other multiple-plaintiff lawsuits.
Candidates should have working knowledge of representing employers before many federal, state and local administrative agencies, and various local fair employment practices agencies.
Excellent advocacy and writing skills are a must.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience, salary is flexible.

TYPE OF RECRUITMENT: Open Competitive Job Opportunity _____________________________________________________________________ DEFINITION: Supervises subordinate staff involved in the implementation of diversity, equal opportunity, and civil rights-related programs. CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS: Positions allocable to this class report to a higher level supervisor or manager and provide supervision to staff engaged in diversity, equal opportunity, and civil rights-related programs. Incumbents assist in the development and implementation of program, budget, and personnel policies and procedures. Incumbents functioning at this level must exercise independence and proficiency in planning, organizing, and supervising the operation of diversity, equal opportunity, and civil rights-based programs on a Countywide basis. In order to function at this level, incumbents must possess a knowledge of applicable laws, rules, standards, and procedures. Essential Job Functions * Manages Countywide Equal Employment Opportunity reporting to federal agencies (e.g., Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Department of Justice). * Oversees classification and data analysis for departmental Workforce Utilization Analyses. * Provides consultations to senior-level departmental managers to review Workforce Utilization Analyses and advise on the development of departmental Equal Employment Opportunity Plans. * Reviews and approves departmental Equal Employment Opportunity Plans, and advises departments on relevant laws, policies, and procedures. * Monitors and develops reports on departmental compliance with required Equal Employment Opportunity related trainings. * Oversees in-house development and delivery of Equal Employment Opportunity training content, as well as vendor-produced content. * Provides general advisement and compliance monitoring to departments regarding the interpretation and application of Equal Employment Opportunity related laws, policies, and procedures. * Supervises Deputy Compliance Officers. Requirements SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelor's Degree* or higher from an accredited college or university AND three (3) years of journey-level Human Resources experience monitoring, reporting, and advising on Equal Employment Opportunity plans, programs and compliance. Journey-level Human Resources: experience at this level are at full performance level, independently carrying out a full range of difficult to complex analytical human resources assignments and makes recommendations on complex issues which directly impact departmental human resources programs and administrative operations. PHYSICAL CLASS: 2 - Light. Involves light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT: This examination will consist of three parts: PART I: An evaluation of Training and Experience weighted 35% based upon application information and supplemental questionnaire. This evaluation of Training and Experience will assess knowledge of Equal Employment(EEO)/Title VII, knowledge of EEO principles, practices and guidelines, ability to produce EEO reports and plans, and supervision. Only candidates that achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on Part I will proceed to Part II. PART II: A multiple choice test weighted 50% that contains both computerized and paper-and-pencil components assessing Written Expression, Data Analysis and Decision Making, Reading Comprehension, Thinking, Administrative, Leadership, Motivation, Individual Work Orientation, Collective Work Orientation, Interpersonal and Self-Management. PART III: A writing assessment weighted 15% assessing English Structure and Content, Written Expression and Prioritizing Information. THE MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST IS NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19. Both Parts II & III will be administered on the same day. Only those candidates that achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on Parts I and II will have their writing assessment (Part III) scored and calculated.
