Lab Technologist

Description:

• Follows the laboratory's procedure for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.

• Performs proficiency testing and documentation for all tests performed in accordance with CLIA, state and accreditation standards.

• Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies; documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.

• Follows the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.

• Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and Corrects the problem or Immediately notifies the Laboratory/Technical Supervisor, Laboratory Manager and/or Technical Director.

• Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

• Assists other areas/rotations within the department with specified assignments in a timely manner after the assigned job has been completed.

Summary: The main function of a lab technician is to perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis treatment and prevention of disease. A typical lab technician may work under the supervision of a medical technologist. Job Responsibilities: Set up adjust maintain and clean medical laboratory equipment. Analyze the results of tests and experiments to ensure conformity to specifications using special mechanical and electrical devices. Analyze gather and record test data to issue reports that use charts graphs and narratives. Obtain specimens cultivating isolating and identifying microorganisms for analysis. May examine cells stained with dye to locate abnormalities. Consult with a pathologist to determine a final diagnosis when abnormal cells are found.
