The Laboratory Technician supports Technical Manager by conducting research and development testing for competitive products and new product developments; assisting Technical Manager in the development of new test methods; maintaining logs and record books; maintaining formulation database and assigning formulation numbers; searching formulation database at the direction of Technical Manager; troubleshooting and resolving problems related to laboratory equipment and testing; conducting quality assurance compliance testing; and helping with special projects as assigned.
Conducts testing and records test results
Maintains lab equipment; able to conduct experiments on various laboratory equipment
Keeps lab equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; scheduling preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
Maintains certifications according to governmental or commercial requirements (Example: SQF)
Documents information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books; record keeping
Resolves problems by examining and evaluating data; selecting corrective steps.
Completes projects by assisting project team; attending and participating in group and project meetings.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications and learning new test methods.
Maintains formulation database, including searching for relevant formulation numbers, and assigning new formulation numbers at the direction of Technical Manager
Enhances laboratory and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
At least 3 years' experience in polymer testing and lab environment preferred
Knowledge of plastic film testing protocols
Familiar with quality control documentation: establishing QC documentation protocol
Self-starter and able to work with little or no supervision
Good mechanical aptitude; able to work with extrusion and analytical equipment
Able to problem solve extrusion and laboratory equipment issues
Able to create/follow laboratory procedures
Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
Computer literate. Able to learn other computer software related to laboratory equipment
