Become a part of the "strength within." Hexcel is currently seeking a temporary Lab Technician for our Dublin, CA USA location. The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations: Understands basic equipment and procedures required for their areas of responsibility well enough to train other technicians.
Converts data to condensed forms (spreadsheets, tables, graphs etc.) or performs standard data manipulation Performs non-routine technical tasks such as designing new experiments on relevant equipment. Trains other technicians or professionals in basic procedures and equipment operation Develops and implements changes that improve efficiency of performing routine tasks in assigned area. Knowledge and application of formulas required for routine calculations (e.g. h/c density, resin content, solids, etc.) Basic math skills including basic statistical calculations (average, standard deviation, COV) Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.
Requires minimal supervision. Organizes own time and manages tasks efficiently. Develops specific problem solving techniques for supervisory review.
Documents problems/solutions. Writes clear, concise operating procedures/instructions (e.g., SOP's). Interacts with other/groups within Hexcel. Participates and contributes to team activities.
Utilizes resources effectively outside of own department. Qualifications:
High school degree with 5 years relevant progressive experience; Associate degree or 2 years related coursework plus 2 years laboratory experience. Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related discipline preferred.
Requires significant experience directly related to the particular job (composites, resins, honeycomb, panels etc.) or equivalent amount of related college coursework. Chemical industry experience, in composites, paints, coatings, laminates or adhesives fields. Requires math and computer skills including ability to use a calculator to perform basic statistical functions.
Ability to use basic measuring devices (rulers, calipers, micrometers, balances). Coursework or demonstrated computer skills including spreadsheet or scientific software and ability to manipulate data in tables, charts, graphs and formulas. Demonstrated competency in operating complex machinery and laboratory equipment (e.g., chemical glassware for conducting chemical reactions, mechanical and analytical test equipment, printing and corrugation equipment). Machining skills, ability to use presses or autoclaves a plus. Proven ability to follow complex, multi-step instructions and procedures to handle a wide variety of tasks.
Knowledge of practical mixing procedures, solvent safety, SDS and PPE awareness, electrical bonding and grounding, process engineering, exothermic reactions, solvent removal, coating behavior. Curing in press, oven or autoclave processes a plus. Eligible candidate must be:
