SUMMARY: Performs laboratory tests relevant to the section(s) in which they are assigned including quality control testing following established criteria.
Responsible for performing routine and non-routine activities pertaining to laboratory testing and the reporting of results under the guidance of the Medical Technologist. Performs assigned analytical testing procedures in an accurate, precise and timely manner. In addition, performs clerical and computer related activities with a degree of supervision dependent on experience and training.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS
Responsibility I
1.Performs all tests relative to the section (s) in which they are assigned.
1.1
Follows all laboratory approved policies and procedures.
1.2
Reviews and releases test results- determines acceptability of specimens.
1.3
Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, corrects the problems encountered and immediately notifies the supervisor.
1.4
Follows department's procedure in reporting STATS or critical results to caregivers.
Responsibility II
2.Performs and monitors all QC and QA functions in their assigned section or instrument.
2.1
Reacts to and documents QC failures notifying supervisor immediately.
2.2
Documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibration and all maintenance performed for review by supervisor.
2.3
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications for immediate review by supervisor.
Responsibility III
3.Ensuring that reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates and if applicable- open dates.
3.1
Maintains a clean and well stocked work area.
Responsibility IV
4.All clerical and computer related duties as assigned.
4.1
Ability to understand and efficiently use the lab computer.
Responsibility V
5.Follows all PPE requirements, CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and safety guidelines as descrived in the safety manuals.
5.1
Know the location and contents of the safety manual. Know the location/use of all applicable safety equipment.
Responsibility VI
6.Participates in government or regulatory agency inspections as required.
6.1 Maintains clinical competency and current professional knowledge by reading relevant journal articles and attending training sessions.
Responsibility VII
7.Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, family members, visitors and Medical Center personnel as identified in the philosophy of Health-Quest.
7.1
Displays a caring and courteous attitude and represents Health-Quest in a positive manner to all persons noted above.
7.2
Promotes and contributes positively to intra-departmental and inter-departmental relationships with no more than two complaints in a six-month period.
7.3
Maintains the confidentiality of employees and departmental information with no infractions.
7.4
Adheres to departmental and Health-Quest dress codes as observed by Supervisor, and wears a Health-Quest picture identification badge, 100% of the time.
7.5
Maintains a professional demeanor at all times recognizing that the position is seen as an extension of Health-Quest.
7.6
Develops rapport with Health-Quest and Medical Center employees that enables them to bring concerns freely.
7.7
Demonstrates ability to work well with others to ensure all assigned work duties are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
7.8
Communicates effectively at all times to promote inter-departmental and intra-departmental collaboration.
7.9
Demonstrates willingness to assist co-workers and/or to accept additional assignments as requested to support the department's efficiency as observed by the supervisor.
7.10 Adheres to the hospital attendance and tardy policies.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: AS with an MLT degree
Experience: One year experience
License: Valid New York State Technician License
