Lab Technician, Laboratory Services - Contract

Nurix is looking for a Laboratory Technician (one year contract with an opportunity to renew) to join our growing team engaged in cutting edge research in our Woodlands site!

Position

The Laboratory Technician performs lab and operational support for scientists. Responsibilities include:

• Receive and distribute lab and office packages and enter receipt in purchasing system

• Available for on-call deliveries at labs and loading areas

• Assist with bio-waste and hazmat waste collection and removal

• Maintaining document control of bio-waste and hazmat waste manifests

• Washing, sorting, and distributing glassware for biology and chemistry labs

• Assisting lab staff with media reagent prep and related functions

• Occasional equipment maintenance, such as changing oil on high vacuum pumps, and defrosting freezers. Mechanical aptitude is desired.

• Maintain inventory of common lab supplies such as consumables, gases, dry ice, and chemicals

• Coordinate shipping of samples to external vendors or collaborators

• Assist in maintaining the chemical inventory system

• Assist with regulatory renewals related to chemical inventory

• Assist with other Lab Services activities as necessary

Requirements

• Bachelors degree or Associates degree in chemical or biological sciences or equivalent years of lab experience required.

• 1-2 years of previous lab support experience, preferably in a biotech environment

• Ability to work safely with hazardous materials, including hazardous waste

• Knowledge of general lab safety practices and procedures

• Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of applications and ability to quickly adopt new technologies

• Strong computer and internet research skills

• Willingness to learn procurement software and processes

• Flexibility and ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside vendors and clients, in a growing and fast-paced environment

• Excellent interpersonal skill and professional demeanor in all situations; highly motivated

• Must be able to work core business hours Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm

• Occasionally may be required to work early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends
