Job Description: SummaryPrepare reagents and solutions in accordance with production schedule following GMP and department procedure. Complete all required documentation neatly, accurately, and in accordance with FDA, GMP, and ISO. Maintain lab supplies and equipment to support production. Perform calculations and prepare solutions for use in the manufacture of complex panel formats. Handle materials per GMP, MSDS, and safety regulations. Effectively work in a team setting supporting team and business goals and objectives. Must be able to handle volumes in excess of 10 liters and lift up to 25 pounds. Must be able to work overtime when necessary to meet business requirements. Responsible for own work and accountable for decisions made. Responsible for follow through on responsibilities assigned. Able to function under minimal supervision. Able to successfully complete other tasks as assigned.

Job Description

  • Responsible for manufacturing and assembling clinical and commercial products. Operates production equipment. Weighs, measures and checks raw materials to ensure batches manufactured contain proper ingredients and quantities. Assists with in-process testing to ensure batches meet specifications. Responsible for validating processes and equipment that are directly related to filtration, cleaning and sterilization. Assists in the removal and disposal of waste chemicals, solvents and acids. Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves basic issues associated with scientific operations.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Cleans lab supplies and glassware

  • Builds panels/dispense bottles

  • Operates glass washers, dryers, and autoclaves

  • Creates label files from templates

  • Assists with the removal and disposal of waste chemicals

  • Creates solutions, powders, and liquids for batches to meet specifications

  • Provides training support for on-boarding and/or new procedures

  • Demonstrates the ability to follow established procedures according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

  • Must follow all BD housekeeping policies and procedures

  • Must follow all BD safety policies and procedures

  • Must be able to work overtime as required to meet BD business requirements

  • Perform other duties as required

  • Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • High school degree with technical certification in the area of laboratory operations plus 1 year laboratory experience, AS degree in a scientific discipline with 1 year laboratory experience, or BS degree in a scientific discipline

  • Basic Skills:

  • Ability to demonstrate strong teamwork and communication skills

  • Must be detail-oriented

  • Strong time management skills required

Proficient/Working Skills:

Must be proficient in English with the ability to read, write, analyze/evaluate charts, follow simple diagrams and perform basic arithmetic

  • Proficiency in MS Excel is required

Primary focus is on Laboratory Automation for Microbiology/Molecular markets as well as next generation Laboratory Informatics. This role represents a unique opportunity to make an impact in a high growth market, gain immediate visibility and accountability with company leadership, and make a significant contribution to clinical care. As a key leader, you'll select/support a talented group of project leaders, actively coaching and mentoring them on product development execution, GPDS excellence, customer centricity, business acumen, priority setting, and organizational savvy. Job Description Responsibilities * Drives WW product development for laboratory automation including responsibility for multiple, parallel instrument engineering programs of varying complexity (e.g. technical, regulatory, clinical trial, market release). * Drives WW product development for laboratory informatics and imaging programs * Assesses, recommends, and executes real-time tradeoffs between multiple engineering and informatics projects to fully utilize a significant resource pool, maximize product features, drive efficiency, and minimize time to market. * Manages ongoing BD Microbiology Automation Solution releases, insuring fielded solutions are properly supported/updated to optimally serve our customers * Insures project/program interdependencies are fully understood and captured in detailed project plans * Manages, selects, and supports the development of BD Laboratory Automation and Informatics/Imaging project leaders. * Communicates progress on BD's entire Lab Automation and Informatics/Imaging portfolio with the programmatic governance bodies of the worldwide business, Platform Leadership, and cross-functional leadership. Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in a life sciences or engineering field required. An advanced degree, MS or PhD in life sciences or engineering is preferred. * Molecular/Microbiology/Infectious Disease domain knowledge preferred. * MBA is highly desired. * 7+ years of work experience in diagnostic instrumentation/software development (4+ years in large solution system development preferred). * 4+ years of project development leadership experience with a track record of new product delivery to market via management of programmatic campaigns (several cross functional teams with multiple interdependent projects in-flight at once). * 3+ years coaching and developing project leaders. A track record of selection/hiring/building a team of project leaders preferred. * Demonstrated track record of successful diagnostic product development with a history of predictably managing multiple product launches across multiple platforms. * Demonstrated ability to manage/choreograph a "campaign of products in development" with parallel/concurrent development paths. * Able to set priorities and guide teams based on priority and other business constraints. * Strong cross-functional team leadership and influence capability. * Strong strategic thinking and ability to identify market trends, technical nuances, and efficiency elements with ability to translate information and leverage across multiple projects. * Strong business and financial acumen (e.g. NPV model, P&L understanding, budgeting experience). * Experience sensing the external market, assessing the competition and understanding customer needs. * Demonstrative track record of providing innovative solutions to difficult problems relating to cross project, or cross functional execution. * Coaching and developing talent (cross-functional project leaders). * Organizational savvy and ability to influence others in a matrix organization. * Excellent communicator to multiple audiences (e.g. individual contributor vs management, technical vs non-technical).
