This is a working lab technician for both motor and mechanical testing. This position will be heavy into electronics and instrumentation to support all testing. Will also be required to do machining, 3 phase wiring and test setups.

Professionals ( > 2 years of work experience)


Oversee test projects assigned to them, provide electronics and instrumentation support for all testing, and provide assistance for calibration and setup for mechanical and motor testing.

Maintain their test projects on a work request data base, 3 phase wiring required for projects, maintain lab results and data from testing and work within all OSHA and ABB safety laws and rules.

Data logging programing.



High School Diploma or GED AND 4 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.


Associates degree AND 2 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.


Bachelor's Degree

  • A Master's Degree in required field = Credit given for 2 years of work experience.
  • A PhD/Doctorate in required field = Credit given for 3 years of work experience


Associates' degree in Electronics / Instrumentation or Mechatronics.

Electronics / instrumentation, drives knowledge
3 phase wiring, common knowledge of test equipment including scopes, multi meters, power meters, hi pot and surge, ohm meters.

Small machining and mechanical skills

Microsoft office products including Word, Excel and Outlook

Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US

Responsible for following consistent and repeatable HVAC mechanical project estimating standardized procedures and processes, and achieving financial results on assigned projects. Provides project estimates for day to day activities of our local branch, which may include service and or prime retrofit projects. Works close with Sales and Project Management to uncover and secure new work and change orders from the existing customer base. Provides mechanical project estimating and estimating reviews. Acts as a technical resource for Sales. Responsible for overall project safety program compliance with team members. How you will do it * Plans and estimates assigned projects. Oversees the mechanical retrofit process to insure that it is performed in accordance with Johnson Controls standard practices. Facilitates escalation of product related problems. * Work with Sales team to secure new work and change orders from the existing customer base. Estimates mechanical work and presents proposals to the customer. * Acts as a technical resource for Sales. Assists sales in project development efforts and performs pre-bid reviews. * Reviews and interprets contract Terms and Conditions. * Coordinates the drawing layouts / detailing for proper job installation. * Works close with Project Managers financial reporting systems and project schedules to proactively address potential problems and manage risk. Investigates solutions and establishes project recovery plans. * Proactively investigates opportunities for improvements in the project scope that will result in value added change orders. Performs associated cost estimates, works with sales team to prepare proposals and to secure customer acceptance. * Oversees assigned projects for compliance with specifications, local codes and installation techniques. * Uses negotiation skills to consistently resolve disputes. * Provides high quality written communications. Ensures project document controls are in compliance with contract requirements and Johnson Controls standards. * Develops and maintains viable long-term relationships with customers and subcontractors.
