Functions of the Laboratory Technician could involve chemical & physical testing, calibration of BIW equipment, industrial hygiene monitoring, environmental inspections at all facilities, shipboard audits, sampling and visual inspections, helping with coordination of waste vendors, and other audits and tasks as assigned by the Manager. The Laboratory Technician must have the capability to become a Shipyard Competent Person and perform those functions, once designated, involved with confined spaces, hot work and spray painting inspections.
Bachelors Degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, environmental studies, marine studies, or environmental engineering required, or, alternatively, an Associates Degree or minor in the same fields with at least 2 years of pertinent recent work experience is required.
Candidate must be able to plan and coordinate time dependent activities (required).
Candidate must be have strong communication skills and be able to think critically to solve problems (required).
Candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, be a team player, and be flexible and able to adjust to changing priorities (required).
Pertinent work experience must be demonstrated through appropriate knowledge (required).
Shipyard experience is preferred, but not required.Must be physically able to lift, crawl, climb and work in confined spaces and at heights (required).Technical writing skills and knowledge of OSHA 1915 and/or environmental regulations preferred.Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with Access preferred.
